Man oh man...
I could not believe it. I knew they were going to ask people to come up from the audience, so I was ready, and as soon as that bass started pulsating for my girl, I was up on that stage. As I was singing, I had to keep looking around and pinching myself, reminding myself of the history on that stage.
At the stage door, I got so many nice compliments from the Funks. Jack Ashford said I should hop on the bus on go on tour, and, probably my biggest compliment of all was Joan Osborne telling me I had a great set of pipes!!!!
It was a dream come true, and it's all I can talk about today!! The show itself was magnificent, and the audience had so much love and respect for the Funks, it was very touching.
No DVD's...the merchandiser missed the boat on that one and shipped 'em to the wrong place. Dr. Licks was not happy about that, saying that they had missed out on $20,000 because of the lack of T-shirts, DVD's, et al.
Anyways...I SANG WITH THE FUNKS!!!

You make your Soulful Detroit debut a week ago and already you were up there with the Funks singing "My Girl".
I'm impressed...
Give yourself a hand for singing with the world's greatest band!

Michael,
That's absolutely great. How did they conduct this come up and sing with the Funks thing. Did they just pick anyone at random or did you just have to be aggressive and force your way up. I gotta know. I defintely want to sing with the Funks and am ready. I want a piece of the action.
By Sue (63.85.105.20) on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 - 04:59 pm: |
hiram,
I've seen them do this -- make sure you make eye contact with Jack Ashford, and have your arm waving madly. Jump up and down as soon as you hear him tell the story about Deputy Dawg sounding good in front of the Funks ...
By Vito (216.23.183.2) on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 - 05:03 pm: |
Or Hiram,
For $ 500 (bank transfer) I'll set it up for you and Jack. What venue do you want to sing at?
By the way, Jack get's 50%.
NOT!

wow, Mike, all I can do is echo others in saying 'you lucky dog!' Talk about a memory of a lifetime...
I'm so jealous of all of you. I wish someone would convince the Funk Bros. to bring it down South. Why not a show in Jamerson's hometown, Charleston, S.C., where just coincidentally I happen to reside?

Michael, I saw you!!
My objective opinion is that you were a total hit. I wondered, who is that talented guy - he must be a pro.
Folks on the forum: MichaelOH is an outstanding performer (and he's so young!)

Vito,
What financial institution?
Michael,
Were you lucky enough to get ahold of a picture of your memorable experience? If so, could you post it here.

Hiram...since you received insider information from Sue, I'm sure we'll see you singin' with the Funks next. Looking forward to hearing you.

Hey All!
I know a professional photographer who took pictures of me with the Funks!! A whole roll!! So, as soon as I get them, I will post a few on here!
Can't wait to see them myself...
For those who haven't seen them yet, as soon as that horn riff blares out on "Uptight" you'll be in Soulful Detroit heaven.....

Michael, I also was at the concert last in Cleveland. I don't know when you arrived, but
we bought our DVD there along with a hundred or so others. We got a wrist band which let us re-enter and the Funks graciously signed any DVD, shirts or programs. Class act those gentlemen are.
Joan Osborne was incredible.
One of the best concerts by far.

Man!
You guys all are all too much!! I don't think I've ever been on a nicer board...
The Funks have stayed with me for days...! It's the only music I can listen too right now...everything else bores me at the moment! ;)
It was an absolutely incredible experience...and I can't wait to here about the Detroit show.
(one day I'll tell you all about when I was onstage with Patti LaBelle!!)
Regards,
MichaelOH
