BOTH SIDES PRODUCED BY RENZI-GAMBEL-ROSS.

I have this single too, but his other single for Swan, "Everybody Crossfire", is a well-known Northern spin.

I have it on a Kent CD, "Swan's Soul Sides", but it's in a binder of CDs that a friend borrowed from me, so I can't look at the booklet for info.

Best,

Mark

"Everybody crossfire" was released in 1963.

Writers were Gamble/Renzetti and Jerry Ross.

There is no detail in the cd booklet on SS but Ady reckons the voice is so similar to Chubby Checker that it could in fact be him.

David,
'everybody crossfire' to my knowledge was quite big at the VA'VA'S,
I think Richard Searling or somebody was playing it and I got a copy years ago.
Everybody Crossfire/watch your step/Swan(no.4159)
and the tracks Soulpuss mentions above on Swan(no.4146).

David, I'd be very surprised if Sammy Sevens is Chubby Checker. I'm listening to the great You Are a Lucky So and So right now, and Sammy's voice is a good deal deeper than Chubby's. His phrasing and style seem church-inspired and deeply soulful. My guess is that he was at least a few years older than Chubby.

Also, I'd be surprised if, at the height of his popularity, Chubby Checker went sneaking off to another Philly label to produce a couple of stealth singles. But of course this very sort of thing has happened on occasion, so it's not impossible.
