Does anyone have any info on the short lived group "Solo"? They had a very nice song out
"I've Got Heaven Right Here On Earth" and "Where Do You Want Me To Put It"
Are they still around and what's going on with them?

Oh, my goodness!!!! I want to know, too. "Four Brothas and a Bass" was a slammin' group, and the lead guy played upright (good upright player, too) and may have had one of the best tenor voices to come along in 20 years.

They had a cut called "Touch Me", which was produced by Raphael Saadiq. Unbelievable group, but not well produced overall (except the song "Touch Me").

I remember they had a video, and the sang to an old Drifters? song, with the upright bass gettin' loose. Soulful cats. Peace.

Solo (as well as Mint Condition and Sounds of Blackness) were signed to Jam & Lewis' "Perspective Records". During the sale of A&M it seems that the distribution deal Jam & Lewis had was bought out or teminated and everyone on their roster was left high and dry. They (J&L) have since signed a deal with Arista....but apparently have not re-signed any of their previous acts. Only The Sounds of Blackness have resurfaced with new product on a new label. Hmmmmm...maybe Libra Records, LLC will take a look at SOLO.....(LOL)

Solo has a great sound!! I remember a few years back, I was skipping through the tv channels and I came upon BET and I heard 5 seconds of Where Do You Want Me To Put It. I looked at my wife, who knows my taste for Classic Soul, and she said...Where did this young guy get that old school voice?
The next day I got their first CD, which is incredible, and I wore it out until their 2nd one came out. Since then, I've been waiting for their 3rd, but now it seems that may not happen. Problem is, I guess, they ARE young guys, but they sing old, and unfortunately, that style just isn't what's selling nowadays. Maybe they were encouraged to change their style. I'd like to think they preferred to remain true to who they were, even at the cost of their contract.
I'm confident, though.
These brothers are too damn good to be held down too long.

MEDUSA9E...

I have seen the lead singer, Eunique Mack, singing in the subway in New York City. I just saw him as recently as two weeks ago. It was weird the way I found out who he was.

I heard this guy singing some Temptation and Sam Cooke songs, with tracks, at the 14th Street & Lexington Ave station. I said to myself "this guy is awesome - nobody sings old school like that anymore". I tossed a few bucks in his gig bag and he gave me his card with a web site address. When I signed on, I come to find out that he was the lead singer for SOLO.

I really loved those guys:

1. They had that old R&B - Soul style you don't hear anymore.
2. Folks called my job asking if my group changed our name to SOLO; people thought it was my group singing on the radio. We had broken up a few months before 'Heaven' was played on the radio. However, I took it as a compliment.

You can check out his web site at http://www.mackability.com/eunique.htm

He must be making a great living as a busker to be able to put out a cd .
I believe that I have seen him at the PennStation stop and on the A train as well.
He deserves to be heard by the masses and yes the group Solo was awesome but not promoted at all.
