Hello! Does anybody know if the Joanne Dovalle record really exists. I heard it on a tape that Graham made me and it sounds almost the same.

Is this the same Hot Label that has Little Joe Cook and the Sherry's on it?
As the Hot Label they are on has Hot across the top and not down the side.
Perhaps this is an earlier Hot release?
I Know the
Joan Dovalle on the Sport Record Label worth around 5/6OO pounds.
But I take it that this isnt related to
the Joanne Dovalle that you mention.

Mel,
The Hot label that you're thinking of is from
Philadelphia.
There's at least four different Hot labels.

Thanks Davie,
I always thought that the Sherrys/Joe Cook was on a Detroit 'Hot' Label.
Cheers

What Joan Dovalle record are you guys talking about??; I know "Let Me Go" and it's fantastic ( don't own a copy, unfortunately)- she maybe sounded too much like Big Maybelle to really get a career of her own going, though. (at least on that track she did)

Did Andre Williams own the Hot label that released the Patty Charles single?

Kev,
None of the interviews I've seen with Andre mention him owning the label, or any other label
come to that. Presumably he's the "W" in B&W Productions - so who's the "B" ?

Does anyone know the value of the above scanned record? I'd love to have a copy! Graham kindly recorded it onto a cassette for me last year and I was knocked out!

Hi C. Bell, I had a Joan Dovalle on Sport and sold it one year ago for 600 UKP.

I don't know much about these discs on the Hot label - but here's what I've heard over the years....
The Patty Charles' 45 (scanned above) is relatively common, but doesn't sound as good as the Joanne Duvalle version (same song.) This JD version is much rarer and I think it's worth over a thousand dollars. I'm not sure what the Patty Charles one is worth, but my guess it's around 100 dollars. Please note - I could be miles out!
The Joanne Duvalle version has been mixed so that it has much more bass and I much prefer it to Patty's.
The label number is the same.

Thanks Graham! The JD version must really blow your socks off then! Tim Brown told me he sold a Patty Charles one some time ago but didn't disclose the amount. Must indicate it's not so easy to find! Ah well, if you could find all the records you desired, collecting them wouldn't be so interesting.
