In either the late 50's or early 60's I was on stage with Milky the Clown at Starr Elementary in Royal Oak, MI to put my hand in the penny jar and grab as many pennies as I could. Scared out of my mind as an adolescent in front of all those fellow grade schoolers. Anyway, much later, in the 90's my mother ran an estate sale for Clarence Cummins (not sure spelling is correct) who was Milky. I was lucky to get a Milky the Clown Fan Club button, which I will treasure forever.

Jeez......
....I hate it when you guys do this, it makes me think of how old i'm getting.
Milky showed up a number of times at the Roosevelt Elementary June Fair in Ferndale, and I looked forward to his appearance as much as the John F. Ivory horse team and wagon.
He impressed me as the most approachable kids show host out there.

Oh no! Not Milky the Clown. "What's the magic word? Twin Pines!" "You can have worry free, home delivery, call Twin Pines!" Talk about great memories! My cousins and I had the opportunity to be on that show 'many moons' ago. Milky was so cool, he came over and talked with us and took pictures. We all got free toys as well.
I love this web site!

Has anyone asked if the TV stations got any old Rotoscopic >Video of those shows?
Rotoscopic - a film camera aimed at monitor, then the film is developed and later transferred to 1" Video (VHS/Beta etc later)
That might trigger old memories- I know there are some old BOZO the Clown in Chicago.
I'd be happy to get some of the old SOUL TRAIN I used to watch in B&W on CH26 - Imagine Don Cornelius in B&W before the color and pricey studio... no those would be classics.

WAS HE RELATED TO BOZO OR COUSIN CUPCAKE?

Kegtapper,
The term you are looking for is kinescope. There are no kinescopes or videotapes of any Milky shows. In fact, precious little exists of any old Detroit kid shows. I own the only surviving kinescope of a Sagebrush Shorty show. Johnny Ginger has a couple of kinnies of his old show. That's about it. Most all of Soupy's Detroit shows are gone. Ditto for Ricky the Clown and Jingles. Art Cervi told me that the CKLW Bozo tapes are "out there somewhere."
If you're into Detroit TV kid shows, check out my website at www.detroitkidshow.com

Dwilmot - I probably saw you on TV. I used to wish that I could be so lucky to put my hand in the penny jar.

Thanks for posting Ed. I'd give anything to see Kinescopes of those old Soupy shows. They were hilarious.

Cool site Ed.
Always inspiring to see someone following their heart. I haven't seen the "Seal of Good Practice" in 30+ years. That was a nice surprise.
I see you locked her image down tight!
Damn you Man! Why won't you let us in?

Anyone remember when Soupy would have Pooky the lion pop up and sing a Little Ritchard song.He did quite often, one of my favorite skits.

I simply have to stay out of this website! As I browse the subjects bring back just too many memories that I have to add my own two cents worth. I sit here trying to overcome 'Senior Moments' trying to spark some memory. But it's so much fun! And its too late for me I'am addicted.
Soupy
Milky the Clown
Johnny Ginger
Wixie Wonderland
Jingles
Poop Deck Paul and Captain Jolly
Does anyone remember Milky's Willy Do-It and Applesauce the dragon? Of course you do!
Was Sargeant Sacto Jim Ryan's character before Count Scary came along?
I got a hoot out of Soupy Sales nighttime show, and Johnny Ginger's, they were very funny, especially Soupy's "Charles Veesheesuas"(pardon the spelling)skit. Does anyone remember that one?
Then how can we overlook the Ghoul and Morgus. It was TV at its finest! Well, it was certainly entertaining to us kids.
One of my best memories is Shock Theater every Friday night. My brother and I had our Friday night ritual. We would go get a couple bags of Top Hat Hamburgers (remember 12 in a bag for a buck) and watch Shock Theater on Friday night. (Saturday was my date night or a dance somewhere) Then it was Sir Graves Ghastly on Saturday afternoons (even though he was out of Cleveland, I believe) he showed those "scary" movies and did some funny schtick!
