Las t time I spoke to Joel, which was less than a year ago, he was doing an album with Ike Turner.
He also does a lot of pop stuff these days.
In the seventies when I did work with him we had Terry Collins and Eli's Second Coming.

Remember a song by Eli's Second Coming in the 70's called "Love Chant" and I believe it was on the Silver Blue label. I wore out two copies of that record! I heard it in New York in a club on a visit, bought a copy and went home and turned Detroit out with it!
I also recall what sounded like the Sweethearts singing vocals on that. Ooo.. I loved that song!

Hi Greg C!!
So you are the guy who bought that record!!(lol)
I am so happy that you liked that song.
It came about quite by accident during a Terry Collins session.
The track that we were doing was so hot that we decided to make it an instrumental.
I had Barbara Ingram and Ron Kersey write some lyrics to it. The Sweeties did the vocals , Ron did the ad libs and Barbara and Ron did the "moans" at the end. They told me that they had a lot of fun doing that part!!
The William Morris agency wanted to bok "Elis Second Coming but there was no such group as it was basicaly Salsoul/MFSB in a nom de plume.
Love Chant was somewhat of an underground hit and was a fave in the Black gay circles at the time and still get spins in the genre.
A subsequent eponymous album was released .
The rhythm section was :
Charles Collins-Drums
Michael "Sugar Bear" Forman- Bass
Ron Kersey and Cotton Kent-Keys
Dennis Harris and myself-Guitars
Larry Washington-Percussion
Vince Montana-Vibes
The Sweeties -Backing Vocals
Thanks for being a fan!!

Hey Bobby:
Question for you: In the 1970s, Jay & the Techniques recorded a few sides for Silver Blue that were picked up by the Spring/Event label - "Number Onederful","Don't Ask Me To Forget" and "I Feel Love Coming On" - all produced by Jerry Ross.
Did anyone from MFSB play on those sessions or did Jerry cut these in NYC?

Steph...
The album is quite a rarity, albeit pure disco schlock with the exception of Love Chant which was somewhat of a "hit"
Listening to it now is pure torture.
If the strings swirled anymore they would all have collapsed from vertigo as in the image of Mel Brooks spinning around on a swirling disc in the movie High Anxiety !!!
The front cover had a carrcature of a yellow Rolls with the license plate ESC 1.
The rear cover had the Rolls taking off from behind.
How tacky and pretentious......
They coulda used a Camaro!!!

JR has a habit of not paying his bills!!!
We did not want to do the date because of that although the money would eventually come from SB.
