They are the same Doug Banks, that is if you're talking about the DJ.

Doug Banks got his start at WSHJ 88.1 FM at Southfield (MI) High School way back when. He WAS at WGCI-FM Chicago (107.5) when Tom Joyner was there too. He's now at ABC Radio Networks in Dallas and is syndicated to dozens of stations throughout the country and doing VERY well!

Art....
....good to hear from you. For those folks who don't know ARVjr., if there's ONE guy to talk to about Detroit radio (or radio in general), it's him. Just don't tell any Newton Manor stories, OK?

Both sides of Doug Banks's "Ain't That Just Like a Woman" and "Never Say Good-bye" are included in The Northern Side of Philly Soul CD that Jamie/Guyden put out last year (Jamie 4019). The liner notes say that the Guyden single "was released in February 1963 as Guyden 2082, just as Doug was being inducted into the U.S. Army, which may explain why it was ignored at the time." The CD is available in stores or at www.jamguy.com.

If the Doug Banks single was released in 1963, radio's Doug Banks would have been about 7 years old at the time.

Doug (the radio guy) and I worked together at WSHJ-FM 88.3 (not 88.1 as previously posted) at Southfield High School in 1973-74. Doug went on to a long, distinguished career as a broadcaster. I went on to a long, undistinguished career as a broadcaster, and am now in the newspaper biz.

This isn't the same Doug Banks who worked at WBLS in NY, did he? Even though I'm from NY, I don't know if he's still there, because I don't listen to 'BLS any more.
