Hello to all,

I'm not sure if this has been discussed recently on the Forum, but I've just had the pleaseure of attending the Urban League's 30th Anniversary Whitney M. Young, Jr. Award Dinner at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

This year's event honored Suzanne de Passe, with the Award Presentaion by Berry Gordy and entertainment by The Temptations. The night was truly amazing, with an excellent tribute to Suzanne by Mr. Gordy and an inspired, emotional and lengthy speech by Ms. de Passe.

Representation by Motown artists was minimal, but the presence of Stevie Wonder was indeed a highlight. Although there were hundreds of people in attendance, the atmosphere was surprisingly relaxed and all parties in attendance mingled comfortably. Gordy and de Passe graciously honored requests to take pictures with guests, as well as a variety of political figures (Governor, Mayor, current and Former Police Chiefs, etc.)

In their speeches, Gordy and de Passe each spoke at length about their 35 year professional relationship and more specifically about de Passe's significant contributions to Motown. Ms. de Passe was very emotional, as she recalled her initial meeting with Gordy and his subsequent mentorship and career guidance. A video tribute/career retrospective included comments by Shelly Berger (not in attendance) and de Passe's mother "Babs" who also attended the event. Other noteable celebrities in attendance were The O'Jays lead singer Eddie Levert and actress Victoria Rowles.

If any Forum members are interested, I will attempt to post some of my photos from the event. By the way, The Temptations were great as well.
