Soulpuss,
Great singer,Johnny Gilliam..
Check these out!
'Baby Take me back/you make me feel like someone'on Modern Records(no.1052)and also this
'Room full of Tears/peace on Earth' on Cancer Records(no.101).
I remember the first time I heard Johnny Gilliam,a mate of mine was playing it at an all-nighter,a mid-tempo but oh,so soulful ballad that was just about able to dance to.
The guy sang with so much emotion, you could feel the pain he was singing about.
Regards
mel.

There was a Johnny Gilliam who was apparently
the leader of the Marvelettes' road band in the sixties - I don't know if it's the same guy.

Hello Mel: He also had another release on Cancer. I can't recall the title but it was one super soulful ballad. I believe the title went something like "Got to find somone to love ".i can envision him on his knees pleading.

Soulpuss,
I have dug out my tapes and found the Johnny Gilliam 45 that I was after.
Its a rare Soul mid-tempo 1960s superlative(andthensome)and its called'Find yourself another'and is on the Bo-Mar Record Label(no.5004).
I implore you to try and find it,if its available on anything.
Your spot on Soulpuss regards Johnny sounding like The Ice Man,because on this he most certainly does and Jerry Butler also cut a version of this on an LP.
Great Stuff Soulpuss.

The title of the other single by Johhny on Cancer is "Won't someone help me" an instrumental version is the flip. I had to go rummaging through my singles which are in a mess.
