Dr. York is the leader of a "religious" orginization which is somewhat of a cult thing.
I dont recall the name of it but there was a big write up about it recently in one of the Black newspapers .
He is a very charasmatic person and for a time in the late seventies, he had a singing group called Passion in which the Sawyer brothers of Blue Magic were singing for a while during their hiatus from the group.
I was at one of the fan club meetings and he had somewhat of a cult-like following then.
He went on to join the Muslim faith and headed the division responsible for the insense and oil stands.
In '85 he opened Passion /Dr York records and studios in Brooklyn
There was a studio near Philly called Kajem which bought a new SSL desk and had the old Harrison desk on the market.
One day several guys in a pickup truck showed up with $35,000 in fives and ones in a shopping bag and proceded to pay for and un bolt the desk and then whisked away to Brooklyn with it in tow!!!
They did not leave any oil behind.
Too bad, as I wanted some Egyptian musk!!!

In 1985 or 1986,there was a girl group Dr.York produced whose name I cannot recall but I remember editing a radio interview they did for a music show I produced for my college's radio station. The girl group's record was called "He's So Fine" (no relation to the Chiffons records). I later met two men who were Dr. York's "label reps" who gave me & my DJs promos & posters (no Egyptian musk! )

At first i thought it was the same religious group as the one actor wesley snipes is in called "Royal Guard Of Amen Ra", but it's all together a different belief. I did read a while back that Mr. York did go back to recording music. I can't recall the name of the religious group he was affiliated with, i believe it had something to do with "Yaweh" but he had a great mass of people following him..I wish him well!

ok, getting back to Dr. Malachi Z. York, he was also arrested and the name of his group ..."Nuwaupians" at one time. These people still follow and believe in him after he was arrested, but whatever...that's a very personal thing, religion that is.
