I read on a Yahoo site about a Mary Wells LP, "Love Songs to The Beatles". Does anyone remember that one? I had it at one time. As I remember, I really liked it. I think I got it in a bargain bin, so am assuming it wasn't a big hit? I'm a big Mary Wells fan, so, it was just fine to me. Does anyone know the fate of that LP? I can't remember what label it was on. Perhaps the one she left Motown for?

Yes it was on 20thCentury. Ive always wondered how it sounded because its been called"bizarre."Ive alwasys wondered what was bizarre about it? I love Mary too. Recently read how her post Motown stuff unfairly maligned and much of it was vg.

I was fortunate enough to find a clean copy of this LP (a Capitol Record Club issue as well!) cheap at a thrift shop.

I haven't played it as yet, as I'm still trying to sort my turntable situation out. I also recently picked up the Ichiban CD of Mary's Atco material.

Best,

Mark

This LP had one single pulled, "Please, Please
Me" b/w "I Should Have Known Better". A lot
of it has a big band sound so perhaps that's
why someone would call it bizarre. It was her
second (& last) LP on 20th Century Fox. She
did not, however, like the title. One of my
favorite pictures of Mary is on the back
cover.

"Please Please Me" from the LP was issued as a 45 on the 20th Century Label in '65 with no promotion to speak of.I have my original copy but I was never really fond of it.The label and Marys' manager were pushing her towards the "adult" super club crowd. The LP was produced with that crowd in mind & they don't buy records .Marys' vocals were great as always but the production and arrangements were just not "cutting edge".In the 70's when listening to it Mary would shake her head & say "they sure knew how to waste my money".

Ive tried to find Ichiban collection on Patti & Bluebelles with little luck---web site?-- Dear Lover should have gone top 10 by Miss Mary.

"Dear Lover" did reach#6 on the Billboard R & B chart, but only#51 on the HOT 100.The flip "Can't You See(You're Losing Me) was played on pop stations in Philadelphia and other markets and charted in those areas.Mary Wells always had a lot of two sided hits but split play can hinder chart action.

I have that album. Haven't played it in a while, but I remember that I liked her version of "And I Love Her("Him" in this case).

I need to beef up on my Beatles. I've always liked their music, sort of "British Motown" to me!
I know I need to acquire all of their individual albums. Anyone know of any previously unreleased Beatles stuff I should jump on? Need to get up on my Stones, too.
