David - I think there were 2 clubs called "Little Sams".
What address do you have?

Graham

I have nothing at all. I saw it mentioned on an old thread.

Address info would be gratefully received before my trip.

David,
"Little Sam's Bar" was at 5027 Beubien (near Warren). I have a clip from 1964.

And "Broad's Zombie Lounge" was at 8825 Oakland - near Holbrook (clip from 1957).

Also - Do you know about these?
The Calumet, The Eagle, The Casino Royale, Blues Unlimited, The Rondevoo, Swans, and Ben's Peter Pan?
The Chit Chat was at 8235 12th.
Cheers, Graham

Thanks for these addresses Graham.

I don't know of Calumnet/Casino Royale/Rondevoo(great name)/Swans. Any address detail?

Unfortunately the rest have all gone.

Do you know if Ben's High Chapperal (sp?) which sits on Gratiot today is the original? I only know that it was originally at Burns, apparently..

The Zombie must have been near Phelps.

Hi David,
There was also a "Little Sam's Grand Bar" at 4444 Joy Road. I have a clip of Freddie Butler gigging there in '67.

I have some of the addresses...
Calumet Show Bar - 12144 12th, at Richton.
Eagle Show Bar - 8737 12th - near Gladstone.
Club 12 - 8540 12th - corner of Pingree.
Swan's Paradise Lounge - 8366 Grand River.
Casino Royale - 14865 Wyoming

Ben's Peter Pan Lounge was at 7615 Kercheval - corner of Townsend.

I visited the Calumet several times. In that small club, believe it or not, I saw Jr. Walker. Richton is one block north of Monterey. So I walked there.

I thought Ben's High Chapperal was on Fenkell between Livernois and Wyoming, across the street from Henry's.

What was the name of the club on Chene & Garfield? It had an Upstairs & Downstairs.

Does anyone remember Jazz Workshop? I think it was on Plymouth.

Jazz Workshop! Yes, there was one on Plymouth between Southfield and Evergreen.

I'm trying to remember Chene & Garfield club. Was it Mr. Kelly's. Also, it seems to me that the Emerald's Lounge was on Chene.

According to Joe Hunter's AMG bio.
(www.allmusic.com) Little Sam's was where Berry
Gordy met Joe.

Broad's Zombie was in the 8800 block of Oakland, opposite side of the street from the Phelps, and about a block or so south. The building is gone.
