Any other Timi Yuro fans out there?Whats A Matter Baby just blows me away. Great section on her in recent book(and on BLavette and a number of soul women)---she's had throat cancer and is living in Las Vegas.

PS Timi Yuro has one of the best deepest voices I have ever heard..

Is that deepest voice from recent recordings or way back when? The CD I have doesn't seem particularly deep?

Ladies of Soul book by Freeland out about year or 2 ago with chapters on Yuro,LaVette,Barbara Mason,Carla Thomas, Maxine Brown etc-including what they r doing now--vg book--I never knew Timi was headlining at the Copa and was a favorite of Sinatra's--and her anxiety at Apollo cause everyone expected her to b black.

Timi's voice did not sound very deep. I am mainly referring to the record "Hurt".

If you want to hear TIMI at her best try to get the 3 cd,s on the UK RPM label including a GOOD live one.The best is called THE LOST SOUL VOICE but the other two are also worthwhile.

Im not sure if we all mean the same Timi. I remember a dj commenting on whether she was a man as her voice so deep-eg WHats a Matter Baby

Vandelron:
We are talking about the same Timi Yuro you are referring to. Her octave range was so low she sounded like a male R&B singer (the pure genius of her producer Clyde Otis having Timi record "Hurt", which was first cut by Roy Hamilton, reinforced the image).

For all to see, check out this bit of info regarding Rosemarie Timothy Aurro Yuro, p/k/a Timi Yuro.

"What's A Matter Baby" is a masterpiece, in my opinion. A passionate vocal performance by Ms. Yuro.
