I have plans to see alto saxman Kenny Garrett at the Iridium in New York on April 11. The Funk Brothers are gonna be in New York the same night, at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Just found our about the Funks today. The best saxman of this generation vs. the greatest house band of all time. Why am I always in these "dilemnas".

I've seen Kenny plenty of times, and he is as phenomenal as it gets. His new album is out of sight, considering that Warner wants to drop him from their label. Kenny's a fellow Detroiter by the way. I don't miss Kenny often. What do y'all think? Peace.

First of all, find out what time Kenny Garrett will play at the Iridium and if he's gonna do more than one set.

If he's playing a later set (10:30 - 11:30pm) then go ahead to the Funks concert then hi-tail it to Midtown (the doors open at 6:30pm at the Hammerstein so showtime may be closer to 8 or 8:30pm).

If Kenny is doing only one set and the timing may collide with the Funks, then you do have a dilemma. Did you already buy tix for Kenny's gig? If so, then go to the gig BUT try to go see the Funks as well, even if you have to leave the Iridium gig a bit early (my friend Richard Freeman runs the audio board at the club and he would definitely understand!).

If you didn't buy your tix to the Iridium -and you've seen this guy a bunch of times already - then guess what? YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THE FUNKS!

These men have already lost a few comrades in the last couple of years so this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see what I consider to be America's Greatest Band Ever!
