Diana Ross writing memoir
NEW YORK (AP) -- Diana Ross is writing a memoir that will offer "a tough look at the recent heartaches in her life," including her drunken driving arrest, the breakup of her marriage and her disastrous Supremes reunion tour.
"Upside Down: Wrong Turns, Right Turns and the Road Ahead" is scheduled for release this spring from ReganBooks, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.
"What readers will discover in this moving memoir is that no one is immune from the pain of loneliness, abandonment, divorce and all of the losses and challenges we each face in our lives," ReganBooks publisher Judith Regan said in a statement Friday.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Ross, whose many hits include "I'm Coming Out" and "Upside Down," has also agreed to a one-hour interview, scheduled to air in May on the Fox network.

I have seen this on several Ross boards and what I find interesting is was she going to do a book before the DUI? This is pretty quick for a book to come out after all of her problems. I wonder if someone told her she should capitalize on this which is not a bad idea if you think about it. I hope it gives her some good PR. Secrets of A Sparrow is well...most people didnt like it but when I reread the book again it wasnt that bad. I think people wanted to see some dirt which she didnt dish but thats Ok Im a Ross and Supremes fan Ill buy anything either one of them puts out.

Me three, Stephanie. I'll buy it, and I hope Diana can work out some of the demons that seem to be around her.

I am a great admirer of the lady but from past history, Diana Ross and a "tough look at the recent heartaches in her life" do not go together. If you read her last autobiography you will understand what I mean.

Being the biggest Diana fan, I'll certainly be the first to buy this book. But I do question its timing.
Its a bit too soon to be writing a book about her troubles, especially considering she's only a couple of months sober at this point. Not to mention that trying to complete a book by a May sale date (and a one-hour Fox TV special) might bring on pressure that she doesn't really need right now.
I really think she should take a year off to compose herself, then come back hard next year with a new album, a more-thorough book, and a TV special.

I always felt Diana should write a book or do an in-depth interview about her "highs & lows" during her career, from the formation of the Supremes to the present. Yet, I agree with Reese - she shouldn't try to do this in a rushed manner.
She has gone through so much right now (and has had to deal with the media/press, the law and "armchair quarterbacks" in the general public who feel they know what's best for her) that she may feel somewhat defensive and wanting to tell her side of the story. I've always felt somewhat sympathetic towards Diana because she wanted to be successful so much yet she didn't know any other way to get there than the path she had taken (then again, there is no set path for success).
If she's gonna write her memoirs, she should take her time and not be pressured by publisher's deadlines. Be thorough, be honest & be real. Hopefully, what may come from this is not only a memoirs, but an emotional release so she can live a happy and fulfilled life.

I agree with KevGo & Reese this does seem rushed to say the least.Maybe there were plans for a book before the DUI incident. In recent years I have felt alot more compassion for MS. Ross and her road has not always been easy....however,my road of life has not been easy and I'm sure yours has not either. The difference is hers is magnified and shown to the World.

It's easy to make a target out of Diana. She defined what a superstar is, she could make an alligator eat out of her hand, and she taught a lot of us what joy is. She opened up to everyone and some people went in kicking.
I'm sorry she's so sad now. Maybe her 'new' autobiography will be a better book as a result, but I wouldn't wish it on her.
My opinion, for what it's worth, is that she lived her real (offstage) life through her kids. There had to come a time when they got their own lives and she was no longer number one for them.
Diana's a trouper. What do you do when it all goes pear shaped? You play some more blues or you write another book. Too easy for onlookers to pull pious faces and diss the world's greatest diva.

My brother just called me and is looking at an "Entertainment Weekly" with April 11th date and talks about book and that to be out this spring!? This same magazine rates the "Standing In the Shadows of Motown"DVD an A+!

It is hard for me to have sympathy for people who bully others. But if I know anything it is the power of recovery and especially 12 Step Programs when honestly and humbly worked.

Hello everyone,
This autobio will make number 2 for diana. She already wrote one called "Secrets Of A Sparrow". I'm not a diana fan I think she should try to heal herself first than trying to throw another book out there, making her the object of more scrutiny.
Peace!

common i read that book but to me it wasn't
as informative as far as her days with mary
and flo. it mostly praised her own accomplishments. now mary laid it all out on the table in her book. told it as she saw it.

If this book is anything like Secrets of a Sparrow Diana should never write another book again.....that first one was so self congratulatory I almost laughed at myself for buying it...
