The year was 1972 and it was in the summer
I was 13 at the time we were riding down Broadway
St,.and making a left turn on Grand avenue in Oakland Ca when out of the radio came a musical sound that would change my music life forever. It was (I'll be around by the spinners)at that moment I knew that was my sound. I grew up on motown in the 60's & loved and still love the music dearly, but going into the teen years
I was looking for a style that fit who I was becoming as a young man. Progressing through
the 70's, and after graduating from high school
in 76, it then became time to think about the
future and where I was going with my life so through a series of changes going into the Military and getting married and pursing all the things that go along with working to get ahead somewhere I lost my love of music to a degree I kind of put it on the back burner. In 1989 I meet a Dear friend who sometimes posts on SoulfulDetroit. Though he younger than me there was something different about him, and when we were going through our training together with about 50 others I notice he was very much to himself he was friendly but he keep to himself. One day he was sitting and listening to his walkman and I said to him what are you listening to and he said Spinner I think i'm not quite sure, but it was philly so he handed me his walkman to listen too and it was like a light was turned on with music at that moment to me I was alive again musically. I like to say to my friend (Yoyoshep) thanks for all the musical
information you've given me over the year's along
with countless tapes and cd's I owe you my friend!
If anything like this has happened to you I'd like
to hear about it. Still married and 2 Great Kids.

Hey BROWM8644 it's been a pleasure having you as a friend. It's been great discovering and listening, and talking about all this great music in the world with you. The Sound Of Philadelphia is so endearing and powerful that it brings people together. In these times we live in it's a blessing to be in the "know" about apreciating and being emotionally moved by this music. When I get the Bobby Taylor Thom Bell 45 "I Can't Quit Your Love" I'll send you a tape of it.We'll have many more times of discovering and listening to great music. Yoyoshep.

Hi This site is crammed with questions, answers and info that I personally love to drool over but it is great to read openers like brown8644's, away from all of the facts and figures. This is what Soul is REALLY about....people, emotions, love, sorrow. Two of the biggest buzzes I've had have revolved around arriving in a city, both full of Soul. No1 was Manchester, England in the winter of '67. Driving down into the city from the desolate, snow coverd Yorkshire Pennines to my first all nighter at the Twisted Wheel Club, Derek Martin's `If You Go` on Sue was playing and Jr Walker was the act that night. The 2nd was approaching Philadelphia by bus from NYC and then the buzz of walking down South St at night, it was about 1995 but it was 1965 in my head!
Who else has still got goose bumps about a place in time? Keith
