Bobby, what is your memory of working with Daryl Hall in Philly?I read where he did session work there.

Caleb,
Daryl was not a studio musician on any of our records.
He played on things for John Madara productions and om the unreleased Stylistics album produced by Morris Bailey.
He was a multi-talent and destined for stardom from early on.
We did work on quite a lot of songs and records together for John Madara.

Who's John Madara?

John Madara was one half of the songwriting team of Madara-White (David White was his partner).
They wrote some of pop music's classic dance tunes:
"At The Hop" - Danny & the Juniors
"The Fly" - Chubby Checker
...as well as the ballad "You Don't Own Me" (Lesley Gore's big 1964 hit).
They owned Double Diamond Music Publishing(Bobby & Daryl were staff songwriters) in Philly.
Madara & White got into a bit of trouble when they "borrowed" the Supremes tune "Ask Any Girl" to write Len Barry's 1965 classic "1-2-3". The courts ordered them to split the songwriting credits & publishing with Holland-Dozier-Holland and Jobete Music.

Bobby:
When I looked up John Madara's name in BMI, I noticed that Double Diamond Music is called Mijac Double Diamond Music. I know that Mijac stands for Michael Jackson and that he owns several publishing copyrights. Did he at one point buy out Double Diamond before he bought the Lennon/McCartney publishing?

Other Madara - White projects included girl group fan faves the Pixies Three, the Secrets, Maureen Gray, and the Spokesmen who did "Dawn Of Correction" an "anti-protest" answer to Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction".
On a more soulful note they were the
production team behind Bunny Sigler's discs on
Decca and Parkway.

Leon Huff also worked on the Bunny Sigler Cameo-Parkway sessions as a co-producer with Madara/White.

Until you mentioned the Ask Any Girl/1-2-3 controversy I had never thought about the similarities, and I love both songs. Maybe that is why, because they had the same tune. LOL!! Your musical information is astounding. There are several books in you my friend.

Cleo/Michael:
Thanks for the compliment but the folks that really deserve the credit are Bobby Eli, Nish and others who first discussed the Ask Any Girl/1-2-3 topic in a previous thread.
As far as books are concerned, I'll wait for retirement...

I did write quite a few songs with Daryl but I have to consult my records for the titles.
New Years of '78 after the "made it" he ssuggested that we hook up again but somehow it never happened.
