Once again I am reaching out to you wonderful folks here for some help on yet another record I have no info on. (Graham, I sent you the image last nite because I couldn't log onto the site here.) Gloria Jones & the Tonettes on Warner Brothers 5413 - "I Taught Him" (Part 1) b/w (Part 2). This is a solid soul female group! I can't find any info on Gloria. Is this Tonettes group connected at all to any Detroit-related Tonettes group(s)????? Thanx again!

Hi Nikki - it doesn't appear to be a Detroit recording. I'd love to ear it.
A group called Jackie and The Tonnettes (sp) made a couple of 45s for Mike Hanks. I thought they might have been named after TONy Clark, who wrote a couple of songs for Mike. That's just a guess.
Have you heard "Steady Boy" that was released on the D-Town label?
Cheers, Graham

Nikki,

It's a West Coast record - San Francisco to be precise. "Sly" is Sylvester Stewart / Sly Stone - this is probably the first record he was involved in that's credited to "Sly" - it's from 1964

There's no connection to any other group
called the Tonettes.

Gloria Scott resurfaced in the seventies with
a Barry White produced album on Casablanca.

Davie, Mel, Graham,

Thanx all for the info. I saw the "Sly" on the label and figured it was Sly Stone. Amazing how many artists there are who really have some good talent and are basically unnoticed and/or overlooked.

:) Nikki

Nikki...now I gotta look for that one cuz im curious now...That has to be none other than the GREAT ONE himself Sly Stone...

He did a lot of "ghost" production in the mid 60's on the west coast. But its too obvious thats him. He did a lot of material for the Beau Brummels (such as "Laugh Laugh") but they dont list him but it is not denied that he wrote and procuced a lot for material for various groups.

Nicky...Barry White produced a wonderful singer named Gloria Scott in 1974 ...an album (and single) called "What am I Going to do?"...and a great f/u single called "Just as Long as We're Together". Could this be the singer you're talking about? John
