Please no Aretha jokes.
The one that comes to mind is Gloria Spencer. I believe she tipped the scales at about seven hundred pounds. If I remember correctly, she hailed from Harrisburg, PA.
Anymore plump ones come to mind.

Gloria Spencer was a fine Gospel singer who recorded for the Jaywalking/Soulsville people ran by James walker from Herrisburg Pa, who Bobby did a lot of stuff for including the Continental Four and Little Dooley.G When Gloria recorded with us with Bobby Martin, she had to be lifted in the freight elevator at the back of Sigma because at that time there was no studio 2 and no downstairs studio at all as Joe did nt aquire the space yet.

How about those great singers that recorded one of my all-time favourite dancers that I still have today and even appeared at the Cavern club in the early 60s in Liverpool.
The Soul Sisters.
and the record I am referring to is 'Good time tonight'on the uk London Label.
Another great mover by them that I also have is on uk Sue and 'I cant stand it'.
I have the write up to the time they appeared at The Cavern and a great pic of them both.
Another large and great artist was the superbly voiced Billy Stewart, and we must mention the great Big Maybelle,Big Joe Williams,JJ Jackson,Willie Dixon,Big Mama Thornton,Bessie Smith,Ella Fitzgerald,Big Joe Turner,Solomon Burk,Ruth Brown, etc.
All brilliant artists no matter what they look like,it's the voice that counts!!!!!!!!!!!!

Billy Stewart was a very heavy-set man, but what
an incredible performer. He really knew how to
use a mike. I saw him in Oct. 1966.

Oh my gosh -- I've been away from here for a few days and I have sooooooo many threads to catch up with!! This is so funny all these threads - fattest, tallest, shortest....you folks never run out of ideas here! Sure makes for some interesting reading! Anyway, I recall Sugar Greer aka Lynn Middleton (sang awhile back with the Harptones, and earlier with the Joytones) being quite heavy. Also unfortunately Arlene Smith (of the Chantels) is up there too. But she still has a great voice!
In harmony (fat, thin, tall, short, and whatever),

Just a little bit of trivia.
