I had no idea you SD'ers started one of these. Thank you for sharing your love and deep appreciation for the Funk Brothers, and for the personal privilege to be able to bask in their glow. We are all grateful for the nominations.

Top of pageBottom of page   By janebse (68.63.4.162) on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 - 09:02 pm:

I just wish that when they get nominated for an Oscar, the Oscar show would have the Temptations singing and dancing to one of their hit records which they did with the Funk Brothers. It just seems most fitting that the legendary Temptations who worked with the Funk Brothers would showcase one of the Funk Brothers' works.

THE ONLY QUESTION JANEBSE???...WHICH ONE'S...THE OTIS WILLIAMS TEMPTATIONS...OR THE DENNIS EDWARDS TEMPTATIONS REVIEW???...STU

Top of pageBottom of page   By janebse (68.63.4.162) on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 - 09:11 pm:

Otis Williams by far

Top of pageBottom of page   By janebse (68.63.4.162) on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 - 09:14 pm:

SITSOM is coming to a town near me very soon, and I am looking forward to seeing it. I've run and rerun and rerun the trailers, all of them, on the computer.

I just wish all radio stations would play all those songs today. They'd wipe our present pop music.

Top of pageBottom of page   By SisDetroit (68.42.209.170) on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 - 10:14 pm:

I do not wish for the Temptations to showcase with the Mighty Funk Brothers. That would detract away from the Funk Brothers.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Sue (64.12.97.7) on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 - 10:26 pm:

Amen Sis, although a guest appearance by someone like Dennis Edwards on a song or two might not be a bad idea.

Top of pageBottom of page   By SisDetroit (68.42.209.170) on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 - 10:55 pm:

Dennis Edwards would be appropriate. After all, Dennis was the main leader on "Cloud Nine." None of the lead singers who recorded with the Funk brothers are currently with Otis's group. And if anybody sings "Ain't To Proud To Beg," I would rather see David Sea sing it with the Funk Brothers. He sings it best over all.

Of course I would like to see Chaka sing "What's Goin On" with the Funk Brothers at the Grammies.

Top of pageBottom of page   By John Lester (217.40.198.146) on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 - 02:00 am:

Can I just mention that there are some artists who did actually sing with ALL the Funk Brothers and who would dearly love to be invited to repeat those good times.

Now that would be "really saying something"

Top of pageBottom of page   By Vickie (64.12.97.7) on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 - 02:25 am:

I would love to see Louvain, Marlene, & Jackie with the guys again...
The men and women of Motown (truly)

Top of pageBottom of page   By Rich (162.33.234.140) on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 - 08:21 am:

HW, congrats from over here, as well to Dr Al & particularly The FBs.

In a different direction for just a minute ... James Brown, Funky People Vol 4 - c'mon Polygram, bring it !! There's plenty of material still sitting in vaults or on $100 slices of vinyl. Volume 3 was awesome. BTW, have you read Fred Wesley's book? OUCH !! Talkin' bout some serious beef with the Boss.

Oh, and speaking of beef, Open Sesame & The Force CDs? Where they at? No I'm not kidding, I really like those two. For the most part, I've loved the job that the label has done with K&TG reissues & compilations, particularly the ones that included bonus cuts or unedited versions.

Thanks for Keepin' that Funk Alive, Rich

Top of pageBottom of page   By 1wicked (64.32.154.94) on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 - 12:18 pm:

Rich...what's the title of Fred's book ? (Please tell me it's not "Hey, Fred......")

Top of pageBottom of page   By Eli (151.197.39.4) on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 - 01:07 pm:

Harry,

To me you are Mr. Motown.
Your documentation is priceless and you are already a winner!
Congratulations!!!!

Top of pageBottom of page   By dvdmike (12.84.10.211) on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 - 04:28 pm:

Hey Harry, are you any closer to making public Motown Studio A's recording dates? Just checking.

Top of pageBottom of page   By soulboy (213.105.224.4) on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 - 05:26 pm:

Good question DVDmike!

Top of pageBottom of page   By HW (68.37.221.153) on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 - 09:40 pm:

dvdmike, what do you mean?

Top of pageBottom of page   By dvdmike (65.208.234.61) on Thursday, January 16, 2003 - 07:06 am:

I remember seeing on the Motown website that you said you were considering trying to make a deal to publish the Motown recording session dates done in Studio A.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Rich (162.33.235.92) on Thursday, January 16, 2003 - 08:26 am:

1Wicked,

Wesley's book is titled "Hit Me, Fred" so actually you were pretty close. It covers (almost too quickly) the time he spent with JB, P-Funk, Ike & Tina as well as time scrambling in-between gigs.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ralph (209.240.198.62) on Saturday, January 18, 2003 - 10:03 pm:

When my friend Darlene comes to visit, we enjoy listening to various CD's together. She being a Detroiter, is well schooled in R&B. One of the CDs we enjoy listening to is one that I'm still trying to figure out how I came by. Ray, Goodman & Brown. All I know is the CD knocks me out! The other day while we were listening to the thing for the umpteenth time, Darlene, out of curiosity, read the CD notes. So who's name pops up? Yep. Good old Harry. Hey Harry! Great piece of work pal. Thanks or this one. I highly recommend this to forum members.

Harry and Alan, you are famous! Go to:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/

Scroll down to 'hear it again' and select 'history of pop arranging'. A treat for Motown fans - worldwide. I have not listened to it myself yet. The programme aired last night on BBC Radio 2. Bobby, the Philly sound, it seems, is on next Tuesday night!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Carl Dixon London (195.153.219.170) on Thursday, February 06, 2003 - 08:47 am:

If you would like to hear Harry and Alan Slutsky talk about Motown and the perspective from David van de Pitte too, please tune into the above before it is removed. The programme is 30 mins duration and excellent. David talks about the Marvin Gaye 'What's going on' album, along with other interesting trivia. There is a comparison discussed about the Memphis sound and details about the 'Aretha/Say a little prayer session'.

Hi all,

The link to the BBC show has moved, it is now at:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/audioreplay/aod_help.shtml

and select "History of Pop Arranging" from the list of programmes.

Great show, and can't wait for the Philly Sound and James Brown this week (what's the bet that our Harry had input into the latter?)

Phil
