R&B:
Good question. I don't know the answer but I remember reading in Dick Clark's book "Rock Roll & Remember" how singer Round Robin got into a gunfight with Billy Stewart during a Caravan of Stars tour in the mid 1960s.
And to think - these hip-hop kids think they're so tough....

R&B, come on now the suspense is too much! Was it James Brown & Joe Tex?I think I remember something about JB "stealing"Joe Texs' wife, Bea Ford.

OK GANG,HERE'S THE ANSWER..JAMES BROWN AND JOE TEX WERE APPEARING AT A SMALL CLUB,THIS WAS DURING THE TIME THAT JAMES WAS DOING HIS PLEASE,PLEASE ACT WITH THE CAPE,WELL JOE STARTS DOING A PARODY BY WRAPPING HIMSELF IN AN OLD BLANKET AND SINGING..PLEASE,PLEASE GET ME OUT OF THIS BLANKET WHICH BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN,BUT JAMES DIDN'T FIND IT SO FUNNY UPON SEEING IT HIMSELF,ONLY QUICK REFLEXES SAVED JOE TEX THAT NIGHT.THE FUNNY THING IS THAT IT WAS NEVER MENTIONED IN HIS BOOK BUT IS IN ..THE OTIS REDDING STORY,WHICH IS WHERE I READ ABOUT IT,THE STORY WAS RELATED BY AN ASSOCIATE OF OTIS WHO WAS WITH HIM AT THE CLUB.

Wow!!! R&B, its funny cuz The Godfatha and Joe Tex were the first names that popped up in my head for some strange reason. Poppa's got a brand new piece, LOL!! But naw James is a no nonsense kinda dude but damn do go shooting folks!! I kinda knew it was those two because the kinda had a "friendly" rivalry for years that Mr. Brown mentions in his autobiography. He mentions that whole bus situation in his book. I remember watching Soul Train and Joe would do the whole mic thing and the splits and Joe was GREAT!! but he is not The Godfatha.
The South dont play!!LOL..its funny cuz I swore it had something to do with Stax if it wasnt JB.

I thought the question had something to to with Wilson Pickett. He has put more bullets in things than the Magnificent Seven. LOL!!

John Lester,"shot up the club"is an American term for for some fool that pulls out a gun and fires off a few rounds, usually into the ceiling or floor, sometimes at someone, but since they're so excited they fly off into walls.
It's not very common nowdays as your ass WILL be going to prison for attempted murder.
Gee,my stint with Dick Clarks Caravan of Stars was really tame compared to some of these stories. It sounds like Dick should have had a full time physician on hand for certain tours!

Thank you for that explanation Lynn.

Back in '73 Billy Paul was working at Club Harlen in Atlatnic City (pre casinos)
he was performing on stage when all of a sudden shots rang out.boom!!!!boom!!boom!..people scrambled for cover.
At that time we had what was called the "Black Mafia" who were basically big drug dealer types.
Turns out that someone spotted someone else who had a very large debt coupled with someones old lady messin' around with the other guys old lady.
A glorified "ghetto thing" ya know!!
Two people were murdered the guy and the girl and three more were injured.
The following week the "main man" was tied up and shot execution style in his luxurious New Jersey home along with his girlfriend and her daughter. Him and the dog died. They escaped.
I felt bad for the dog.
And the beat goes on.la dee dah!!!
