I'm not sure if this has been mentioned in another thread (and I apologize it I am repeating the info......I have to admit I don't read ALL the threads and posts here, so it may have been overlooked.) But I am a subscriber to Goldmine Magazine and in the latest issue there's a HUGE marvelous article about the Funk Brothers. It's 5 nicely written pages (including photos) by Harvey Kubernik. Some of the photos include a performance at Baker's Keybroad Lounge (in SITSOM), the Funks with Stevie Wonder, the Funks at the Chit Chat Lounge, Funks at Royal Oak Music Theater, etc. Nice individual bios on Uriel Jones, Bob Babbitt, Eddie Willis, Jack Asford, and Joe Messina. I'm glad to see R&B being represented, as Goldmine is generally focusing on 60s and 70s "white" rock artists. Robert Pruter (author of the book "Chicago Soul") is their R&B editor who is continuously plugging to get more of this kind of music into this publication which has been around for appx. 30 years or so. Anyway, it's great once again to see the Funks now recognized in this world-wide music publication.

Nikki:
Robert Pruter is an excellent source of information regarding the history of R&B music, especially from his hometown of Chicago (check out his book CHICAGO SOUL). Prior to Pruter, my current employer Aaron Fuchs was Goldmine's R&B editor & he interviewed Detroit soul legend Lee Rogers in 1980 as well as contributing research to Alan Betrock's book GIRL GROUPS: The History Of A Sound.
Pruter does his best to make sure the R&B scene is covered in Goldmine and his research is excellent.
