Number 1 song 28 years ago this week that soul
folks were getting down to in various discoteque's
around the country...........

Shining Star - Earth Wind & Fire !

Maurice White said that he wrote Shining Star
one night, while he was walking about and looking at the stars, and spotted a shining star. He
took that and made into a positive way of how
we should interpret ourselves. Shining Star
along with the Lp that it was featured on, "That's
The Way Of The World", was written and recorded
at Caribou Ranch located in Nederland, Colorado.
The Lp was originally a soundtrack for a new
movie entitled, " That's The Way Of The World",
directed by Sig Shore. In fact, EW&F were featured
in the movie as, " The Group", along with actor
Harvey Keitel who played an A&R man who wanted to
sign the group to his label, but his boss wanted to stick to the
typical family bubblegum acts that they were
used to signing.
Shining Star hit No 1 this week of March 17 til
March 22 on the R&B and Pop charts.

Enjoy !!!

I am still trying to find that video!! I heard they cannot find the masters to it.

I was coming out of my bank the last year and I saw Maurice White driving around the corner and I was like wooowwwww!! The coolest cat I ever saw (other than my Dad). I waved to him and gave the biggest shout out I could. A great man and a REALLY great drummer.

"That's The Way Of The World" was the first EW&F album I bought in 1975 when I was visiting my Dad in Seattle, Washington. I still have it.

Not only was "Shining Star" a big hit, the entire album was excellent from beginning to end ("Happy Feelin'", "It's All About Love" & "See The Light" were my faves). Maurice, co-producer Charles Stepney along with keyboardist Larry Dunn, Phillip Bailey, Al McKay & Verdine White co-wrote the bulk of the album which is why the songs hold together so well.

POSITIVE music with a POSITIVE message - something that we need to hear especially in these times.
