The Carl Graves I mentioned is the singer that had a fair size hit in 1974 called "Baby hang up the phone". It came out on A&M. He had some more singles. I seem to remember one was titled "Walk softly".
I don't know about his other musical talents. At the time he did "Baby hang ..." he was sporting a medium afro.

Prior to "Baby, Hang Up the Phone", Graves was a member of those great one-hit wonders, Skylark (remember "Wildflower"?).
I've heard that Big Al Downing has reverted to his rockabilly roots and is a big draw in Europe.
