Oh, shucks! I was meaning to, but Berry Gordy dropped in - and you know how time flies when you get chatting....

Julian,
I think it's safe to say for most on this site -- it's not our scene ..

I just thought maybe someone in the area had gone. There are a lot of people on this forum now and I thought that maybe someone in the area inclined toward hip-hop might have gone. I did think you'd have a report on the event, Sue.

I'm not a big fan of Em but if i had an invite I would have gone just to check it out.

Julian,
Nah my colleague Adam Graham was sort of there, you can look at detnews.com for his report. One of the joys of my job is that I cover the kind of music I like (and other non-music topics). I don't think it's possible for one music writer to cover all genres well, but that's my opinion ...

I thought about being a writer once. I liked researching and doing interviews.

That's was funny, especially "Germany don't want war." Hope any Germs here take it lightly.

I wouldn't say Em is the best rapper, though. Just the most popular.

Em is a great rapper but he is far from the best.

Rakim STILL holds that the title as the greatest MC in my book. Slick Rick and LL Cool J can share it too.

Sly Fan,
What about Pac?

Hey Julian, I get this a lot from Tupac fans..

Pac was a cool but he didnt have the same clever word play and rhyme scheme that these guys had. As a writer he was great because Pac could paint a picture but these three guys as MC's made the picture come alive and they came from a different breed of writers. Slick Rick for instance was probably the best story teller ever in Rap music. LL and Rakim could manipulate the english language in ways unthinkable, Biggie also but what made Big so unique was his delivery...its like you could taste the scenery and the atmosphere. Kool Moe Dee also... "I Go To Work" still amazes me since my days in junior high school.

Pac was more of poet than an MC and he was a damn great writer but the guys I mentioned had it all and still represent to this day.
