Just heard that Toby Walker's "Soulwalking" site has closed down due to copyright problems. It was a fine reference site and I'm sure we'll all be sorry to see it go. There's an explanation of what happened, on (what used to be) the homepage.

You can still email Toby at:
toby@soulwalking.co.uk

Hello Ritchie,

I must be extremely naive but I can't understand why he is being sued. Am I missing something??? This is real sad! :o(

Peace!

This is most distressing and sad news. I just read the details Toby wrote at his sight after reading Ritchie's post.

It seems all so silly and pointless. I loved Soul Walking and often went there for reference info.
It also got me to purchase many books that I would not have purchased otherwise.

There is far too much greed in the world.

Maybe he can start a new site...

I too read Toby's statement on his site! Very sad. I also don't understand what he did that he's being sued for. Sounds like he was only trying to help the artists and gained nothing (financially) for himself. I'm sorry to see this important site shut down. :(

I just came from Toby's website. It is sad when good intentions are often met with such resistance. I guess I won't be frequenting that book he was pushing.

It is unfortunate.

Whenever I couldn't find information on an artist, I went to Soulwalking. I linked Soulwalking as a reference to Jeannie Reynolds. The only site that had any information on Ms. Reynolds.

When Toby mentioned the Irish, I could feel it in my heart. I understood.

Try All Music Guide for some info on Jeannie Reynolds, Sis. It seems Muzik threatened Toby with a $150,000 lawsuit.

The Soulwalking site had some great sounds but the "resumes" as Toby called them were mostly culled from other sites, i.e., Muzik, AMG, Soul Patrol, Miss FunkyFly, etc. The sad part is that it wasn't Toby's fault, a guy that worked with him and lived in another European country was responsible for the "resumes" and Toby initially thought his associate was writing the info.

To Toby's credit he gave credit (I hear) when notified and cited AMG and others as sources on Soulwalking's homepage.

The site became so popular you could rarely hear the songs cause he only had two streams going and if they were in use you were out-of-luck. That said, it was by far the most popular site to listen to soul music from the '60s to the present. He put a lot of newcomers music on and when he featured any tune, jazz or whatever, it was the whole tune and not an edit.

Hey Folks:
I have friends over at Muze office in NYC. Maybe I should ask them if they know about this and find out what the hell the deal is.

If anything, the publisher of the Virgin R&B Book acted as if Toby committed a crime when in reality he did them a huge favor - giving their book the publicity money couldn't buy.

I wish Toby the best of luck. He didn't deserve this.
