Correction, The King Cole Trio's version of "Embraceable You" might have been arranged by Paul Weston. As far as "Lush Life" goes, Billy Strayhorn wrote in in 1938, but it wasn't until 1949 that anyone had ever recorded the song with a vocal arrangement. That person was Nat King Cole, my all-time favorite singer.

Yep! I like "Lost Someone" too!
If I can make 'em sound good I'd like to do some covers (also have to put a smokin' singer on it.)
By Julian (205.188.209.38) on Friday, March 14, 2003 - 01:39 pm: |
Also I really like the Chantels' ballads (Hey, there are the subject of a recent thread, too!).

Vicki Anderson could really sing..."Tears of Joy" and her version of "It's A Mans' World". She also had a live version of "Yesterday" recorded at the Olympia in Paris .

I like Billy Eckstine, too. Like his "Prisoner Of Love" as much as JB's, puts me in that '40's mood.' He did do that in the '40's, right?
By Mark Speck (65.56.219.52) on Sunday, March 16, 2003 - 03:28 pm: |
Mel, flip the Brooks Odell record over and dig on "It Hurts Me to My Heart"--great late-night listening there!
I'll add a couple of great Dramatics tunes to the list: "Now You Got Me Loving You" and "Fell For You", and also "Let Me In Your World" (prefer the O'Jays original to Harold Melvin's remake)
Best,
Mark
