Oh my - that story about Arthur Conley is a riot, sad in a way! But different strokes for different folks for sure!

Anyone here ever hear of an R&B soul acapella group called 14 Karat Soul? They were probably one of the very best acapella harmony groups ever! They used to sing at UGHA many years ago. I can't think of the lead singer's name, but I believe he and some of the other members have been living in the UK for some time. Can any of you UK-ers confirm (or deny) this????

Lars - excellent humour, but was it 'Like a nightmare'??

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ritchie (62.254.0.9) on Thursday, March 13, 2003 - 04:46 am:

No - I suspect the real "nightmare" would be if they were all now recording with Mr Levine ;o)

Top of pageBottom of page   By Carl Dixon London (62.31.40.155) on Thursday, March 13, 2003 - 05:14 am:

Lars, you have competition with Ritchie! Can you oblige? That could well be an occurring nightmare Ritchie. Eating all that Lancashire cheese does not help your dreaming potential.

The Gypsies, who became The Flirtations, moved here in the late 60's. Edwin Starr and his great backing band 'The Team' are all 'up north' in the midlands area. Sheila Ferguson lives about 30 miles west of London I believe. Jimmy Ruffin is here, but conspicuous by his absence. George Williams of The Tymes lives in Canterbury. I wonder if he has seen that tree in the county cricket ground? Now, either Chaka or Taka Boom live in North London right across the road from my sister in law. They often pass the time of day! In addition, my colleague at work lives about 5 doors away from them too and is constantly bumping into one of them in the corner shop when she (?) buys her groceries. It is a constant conversation about which one of the girls it is! I told my friend he must be mad not to mention SITSOM and strike up a conversation and find out for sure. Watch this space, I may pluck up courage and knock on the door one day. If I wait until summer, I know she prunes her roses religiously, in the garden. I could write a song about this -'I'll picka rose for Chaka and Taka'!!!

Susaye Greene lived in the UK for about 10 years and Madonna lived here up until fairly recently too.

Dee Dee Bridgewater lives in France - Paris, I think.

Madona lived around the corner from where I am, in Chiswick. I never did see her, however, I was suspicious about a lady pushing a pram around Sainsbury's once, with a black head scarf wrapped around her head and face! Whether it was her or not, it will be 'something to remember'.

Hey Kev,
The last I heard Tommy Hunt was still living in the UK.
I met Tommy at a Soul Night once before going on to an All-Nighter about 3 years ago.
He was appearing on stage at the soul night but when I met him he was quite merry and joined us for a few drinks more.

Any way Kev,
Tommy was a natural comedian man,he was cracking jokes with us and was winding people up when they went past.
But when we gave as good as we got,Tommy was up for it all night, but had to sing.We heard him and had to get off but I will never forget that night when Tommy just let his hair down and was certainly one of the boys.
yet another great guy,
Right on Tommy.
Mel.

Mel:
Thanks for sharing your encounter with Tommy Hunt. I have the Ace/Kent CD of his Scepter/Dynamo material and from what Tony Drake had told me of Tommy matches exactly what you said about "letting his hair down"!
Regards,
Kevin Goins - KevGo
