Barbara Parritt the lead singer of the Toys was on an RandB Special on PBS recently and she tours as half of Johhnie and Joe and tours as the lead singer of the Toys.

Herb Reid of the Exciters is dead and Brenda Reid
tours with one of her daughters and another girl as the Exciters and she still sounds good.

Not too long ago Cindi Lauper had a bit part on the show Mad About You with Paul Reiser and about 2 years ago was the opening act for Cher.

Barbara HARRIS was the lead first soprano/tenor singer of the Toys and still sings and performs to perfection. Photo below was taken a few years ago at benefit concert here on Long Island:

Barbara PARRITT was the "alto" singer with the Toys. She is the one who is singing as half of today's Johnnie & Joe. Here is a photo of her/them, also taken from a recent concert here on LongIsland.

Both of them appeared to be very nice and very professional people still with great voices!

Nikki,
thanks for the great pics. Johnny and Joe were favorites of mine.

The Exciters consisted of Brenda Reid (lead), Carolyn Johnson (alto), Herbert Rooney (tenor), and Lillian Walker (soprano). Herb died in the early 90s. Brenda is involved with the Church and helping the needy. Lillian is a guidance counselor for the New York public school system, still around, still singing, looks & sounds great! She is currently trying to reform the Exciters group. Possibly they may appear at UGHA sometime this year!

Here's a recent photo of Lillian Walker Moss from the Exciters at a UGHA show appx. a year ago. (She was not performing, just a guest, an "excited" fan (no pun intended) who Ronnie called up to the stage.)

Brenda Reid is L. A. Reid's mother.

The lead singer of the Temprees died less than two years ago.

Sharon Bryant, the original female lead of Atlantic Starr, lives in Philadelphia and was working with Cynthia Biggs a few years ago.

I saw Cindy Lauper on tour with Cher. She was incredible. I don't think people are aware of the pipes of this lady. Now, I know that Cher has her detractors but she and Cindy put on one of the best live shows that I have ever seen (ACTUAL SINGING!!!). Cher had to have guts to put Miss Lauper on the bill as an opening act because Cindy walked the house.

Wow!!! I love the picture of Lillian Walker of
the Exciters. It would be GREAT if they would
reunite and do something spectacular, like a
PBS special. Brenda had pure DYNOMITE vocals!

Cyndi Lauper was also on the Grammy Awards telecast this past Sunday. I also met her years ago when she came by my record shop to buy some CDs. A very sweet woman with a great smile.

Nikki, who is the Ronnie who called Lillian
Walker up to the stage?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Nikki (24.46.200.124) on Friday, February 28, 2003 - 03:04 pm:

Randy,

The Ronnie I was referring to is Ronnie Italiano aka Ronnie I, president and founder of UGHA (United & Group Harmony Association). This is a non-profit music organization (in New Jersey)to preserve the group harmony sounds of the 50s and 60s and has been around since 1976. Sorry about that - I shoulda explained better who "Ronnie" is!!! :)

Hello Soulful Detroiters.

Fayette, DO you mean Russell Thompkins, Jr. who once lead The Stylistics? If so, He performed at a Christmas party I attended here in Baltimore, this past Christmas. His voice is still impeccable. The headliner was none other than Mr. Al Jarreau, who tore it up. I tell you though, Eban Brown who currently leads The Stylistics voice is so very close, if you closed your eyes while they are performing you can't tell the difference, its amazing.

They did announce that Russell has a new CD, and of course I can't remember the name of it (too much Christmas spirits, Ha, Ha) I took picutres and as soon as I can get them out of my didgital camera I would be more that happy to share them with you all. I've having trouble with downloading them into the computer for some reason.

BTW the above photos are FANTASTIC!!!!

They are all washed up and on VH1's Where Are They Now. Most of them are on the Jesus Network "praisin da lord" .....they are really pathetic individuals if you ask me, except for Cyndi Lauper. At least she made it to the Grammys!!
