as we know there was a plague that swept across
america in the late 70's called disco, that
took away a lot of the good r&b groups.can
you name any groups that survived disco.and
whatever happen to the disco singers(donna
summer,gloria gaynor,anita ward,.my favorite
was the last sylvester,i'm sure if he was
still with us,he'd be a great singer,i was
surprise to here how well he handled ballads.

My favorite was Sylvester, too. If he were still with us, I'm sure he's still be Rocking the Box! I think Gloria Gaynor recently released a CD, Donna Summer is still at it. I believe MTV ran a "Whatever became of" fairly recently and they cover the disco scene. Shannon (Let the Music Play) was trying for a comeback as were a few
others. It's good to hear the 70's Supremes are in discussions for a tour this spring. Hopefully, that will pan out. Sadly, several of those singers of the disco era have passed away. Maybe someone out there can elighten us of those who have passed.

Fayette:
Many R&B groups and artists survived the disco onslaught of the 1970s - many of them are touring today.

The Chi-lites, Cuba Gooding & the Main Ingredient, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, the Manhattans, Bloodstone, the Emotions, Teena Marie, Larry Graham, Bootsy Collins, Smokey Robinson - just to name a few, have made it past disco's beat to the present day.

As for the disco acts, Martha Wash of Sylvester's Two Tons of Fun (later known as the Weather Girls of "It's Raining Men" fame) tours around the world and has recorded many successful dance hits in the 1990s. I worked with Martha from 1999 to 2001 and she has nothing but great memories of singing with Sylvester and his producer Harvey Fuqua (who produced Two Tons' hit "Just Us").

Others who survived - Gloria Gaynor, the Trammps, Vince Montana & his Orchestra (formerly known as MFSB), just to name a few.

Is Martha Wash a big hit overseas? Im sure she is. I know she is a favorite in the dance clubs and I dont know if she does gigs there or not but Rochelle Fleming the lead singer of First Choice said she loves the gay clubs because she gets a lot of work there and overseas...oh by the way whatever happened to the other weather girl that sang with Martha?
Stephanie
PS I dont know her name Im sorry.

I saw Gloria Gaynor in person when she first came out with "Honey Bee" and she was very good.At first disco was just R & B dance music. It was not called Disco Music.I tell you I really liked K.C. & the Sunshine Band, K.C. can't sing his way out of a wet paper bag...but he knows how to make a good solid dance record.I loved his productions with George McRae & Gwen McRae & Jimmie "Bo" Horne.Solid R & B dance music of the 70's.

Martha does have an excellent track record here & overseas and plays to sold-out venues everywhere she goes, especially events involving the gay community.

Izora Rhodes was in Two Tons of Fun/Weather Girls with Martha. Today, Izora tours with her daughter as the Weather Girls.
