Hello Bobby

Do you know if R&B singer Ruth McFadden is related to Gene. She had a song released on a Philly label back in the seventies. I can't remember the details. Alzheimer I suppose. She had some releases in the 50's and 60's.

What is Gene and John up to these days. How are the sons of Gene doing? Is Terri Wells still doing gospel.

Soulpuss,
Ruth was no relation. She was one of the first people to record at sigma during the "test"session.
The song was called Rover, rover on the short lived Huff Puff label.
The other test song was the Landslides We dont need no music.
Genes son Gene jr is a promising a&r executive
at Gamble-Huff although there is not much going on there at this time.
Mc &W are working on some shows.
Terri Wells is still doing Gospel.
all very talented people.

Maybe you are thinking of "Ghetto Woman" by Ruth McFadden, which has its cult here in NYC.It was on Gamble. Wish I could find a commercial copy of it. My promo 45 only has part 1! It probably made a lot of people think of "I Got It," which was an R&B track with a big-voiced, gruff gospel lead.

Dang! I thought I had a lead for you there BC, having just seen this record on ebay yesterday, but when I went to go take another look I saw that it too was the promo version you have. It's got Part 1 in stereo on one side and mono on the other.
