Saxophonist Larry Lamb is an unsung Detroit music legend. Many might not know his name, but the musicians all know him. He is a journeyman musician (& horn repairman) that has played rock, jazz, Latin, soul, blues and in the orchestra pit at the Fisher Theater. Larry has been going through a very rough time in the last year, as he has suffered with stage III esophageal cancer. Not good news for a guy that makes his living blowing the sax. The good news is he is on the mend, even practicing a little flute at home. Not playing for the past year has not helped with the bills so we, his musical colleagues want to help out, hence the benefit at the Magic Bag on Sunday, February 23.

This Sunday at the Magic Bag:

7:30pm RJ's Rhythm Rockers wsg Joe Weaver
8:30pm the MillionAires
9:30pm the Sun Messengers

Tickets are $15.00 , available in advance or at the door at The Magic Bag

After party jam at Dino's (22740 Woodward Ave. 248-591-3466 ) with the Bill Meyer Group starts at 10.

In high school Larry played with: The Liberators (with Jeff Lyall later with
the Dead Kennedys),and The Monocles. Later he played at the Grande Ballroom (3
times) with the Gold Bros (w/ James Montgomery). Also in high school Larry played with the Montgomery (James) Miller (Chuck) Blues Band. After that with he was with the Tribal Sinfonia. In the mid 70's he was with a Latin jazz group called Cordova.
Other local artists Larry worked with include the Bill Meyer Group, Bess Bonnier, Ursula Walker & Buddy Budson, the Sun Messengers, Paul Carey & the Nite Crawlers (feat. Chicago Pete), in addition to gigs with the JC Heard Orchestra.
Some of the national acts Larry Lamb has backed up include; The Temptations, The
Four Tops, Martha & the Vandellas, and Roberta Flack. Currently Larry is a member of the jump/swing band the MillionAires and he appears on their CD "Keep a Dollar in your Pocket."
