Chancellor, your listing of Intruders' cuts among your other Gamble Records' favorites reminded me of how inadequate the greatest or best of CDs featuring them are. There really isn't a good comprehensive CD of Intruders' recordings on the market.

I once produced a song on The Intruders called "Save Your Love For Me"
As far as I know it was never issued in the US.
If anyone knows of it outside of the U.S. please let me know.
It is an Eli/Barrett composition.

Bobby,

Can you give me a year for that Intruders track ?

Offhand I can't think of anything released in the
UK that didn't get a US release - in fact until
about '73 hardly anything by the group managed to get a UK release, "United", "Slow Drag", "Cowboys
To Girls" .. that was about it until Columbia took
over distribution of Gamble.

Any info on this early Gamble oddity...?

"Do You" - The Knights & Arthur

The Knights and Arthur-doyou/so sweet so fine-Gamble(202)a long time since I heard that one Ritchie.
I think it got a couple of spins somewhere along the soul scene, briefly.
They also cut a Ballad on the Landa Label and another semi/northern track on the Roulette Label.
The rambler from Gamble(r).

Are the Knights and Arthur the same guys as Prince Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table that did "Walkin' Uptown" for ABC-Paramount?

Best,

Mark

The good ones have already been chosen!

"What Kind Of Lady" is one of my favorite records, period. A masterpiece!

I'm also quite partial to "You're Taking Too Long" by the Boss Man -- what a fantastic intro!

The Intruders had so many good ones, but my favorite is a slow dancing/smooching song: "I like to be close to the one I love, so I slow drag"! They also had a bizarro lyric in "give her a transplant, take my heart and put it in her body"...

Stay With Me by The Futures.

That song will remain with me till the day I die! To make a long story short I recall a very painful breakup in the wintertime and playing that 45 over and over, while looking out at the snowfall after I put someone out.

Funny how some songs become time capsules...

What Kind Of Lady by Dee Dee Sharp
The Bottle Or Me by Dee Dee Sharp

NOTE: The LP GAMBLE ALL STARS had an extended
version of What Kind Of Lady, which was much
better than the actual 45 release.

The Knights and Arthur wa a pseudonym for clothier Ben Krass who originally financed Gamble and was a favor record for Ben who dabbled at singing.
