WHEN WE THINK OF THE GREAT NAT 'KING'COLE WE THINK OF GREAT ROMANTIC BALLARDS AND POP TUNES LIKE[RAMBLIN ROSE,LAZY,HAZY,CRAZY DAYS},BUT THERE IS ONE SONG THAT WOULD HAVE TO FALL UNDER SOULFUL{LOOKING BACK},THAT SONG SOUNDS LIKE IT COULD HAVE BEEN RECORED AT STAX INSTEAD OF CAPITAL,MAYBE THE FACT THAT IT WAS WRITTEN BY BROOK BENTON HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT'S SOULFULNESS.NO ONE CAN EVER SAY THAT NAT KING COLE NEVER SANG SOULFUL.

Nat was one of the first to use the 'new' trio format of piano/bass/guitar.
You're right gabriel, he was a monster pianist. His ballad singing was great, but I prefer his swing stuff.
BTW, Kenny Burrell cites Oscar Moore as an early influence.

In my opinion Nat King Cole was the Luther Vandross of his time. His voice was like pure woven silk and would just melt your heartstrings. I still listen to him to this day when in an, ahem... amorous mood.

Bobby,
I gotta agree with you. And Nat was such a gentleman. One of my all-time favorites without a doubt.

I think it goes without saying that Nat 'King' Cole was one of the greatest voices in the history of recorded music.

Best,

Mark
