Just want to take a moment to extend 'warm' birthday wishes, to Smokey Robinson, on your birthday today, February 19, 2003.

Thanks, FOR ALL the 'joys' you've provided us from within your heart... with a song.

And may the Good Lord above, always... keep you in his care.
Happy Birthday, Smokey!

Smokey Robinson is a national treasure and should be considered for sainthood. His body of work compares favorably with ANY songwriter of the 20th Century.

Thanks for everything Smokey; you are beloved and your songs are eternal. Happy Birthday!

Smokey,

From day one you have been the ispiration for my lyrical contributions.
To this day, I still use "Ill try something new " as a template for my lyrics.
As Dylan once said, you truly are the worlds greatest living poet!!!

Happy Birthday,

Bobby Eli

To a national treasure...a native son of Detroit..a man who showed us how to dance("Mickey's Monkey"), to cry ("Tracks Of My Tears"), to love ("I'll Try Something New") and feel passion ("The Agony & the Ecstacy").

Happy birthday, William "Smokey" Robinson.

I got the chance to meet Smokey Robinson at the
R&B Pioneer Awards thanks to Eugene Record of
the Chi-Lites and Tony Drake. Tony and I were
there to support Eugene and the Chi-Lites for
being inducted. It was the most exciting evening
of my life. Smokey hosted the event and afterwards, Eugene suggested that the three of
us should greet Smokey, as he stood on the stage
talking to various people. As we took the stage,
Smokey greeted all of us with the warmest,
tightest hug, like we were his family ! His
words uttered, " My brothers !". Two simple
words I never forgot came out of this world
famous superstar's mouth. Thanks for that special
night Smokey and happy birthday to ya !!!

More Love !

I can still remember "grinding" in the basement of my home in New Jersey to Oooh Baby Baby. And I think that one of the most brilliant songs ever written and produced is Tears of A Clown with its brilliant lyrical reference to Pagliacci and the calliope playing over the intro. From My Guy/My Girl to Tracks of My Tears to Floy Joy to Cruisin' (one of the most underrated and sexiest songs ever put to record), the man is a genious.

We are a much better musical world because of his presence. Happy Birthday Smokey!!
