I'm sure this has been covered in some past thread, but I couldn't find it. Before 1969, Motown did not credit it's arrangers and I would like to know if anyone can identify the arrangers on the hits before '69. I know Paul Riser did "My Girl" and he and Wade Marcus co-arranged "The Tears Of A Clown", but other than that, I can only guess. So, anybody jump in when they feel like it...

DVDmike:

A wonderful question, you are right. It is hard to find arranger credit for Motown records before 1969. The only one I could find is that the strings for Love I Here and Now You're Gone by the Supremes were arranged by Gene Page. It seems that starting in 1970 you see arranger credits. Some of the wonderul people on this forum probably know much more.

Knowing who the great arrangers at Motown were isn't the problem. It's knowing who did what!

I believe that Riley Hampton received arranging credits for some early records if my memory serves me correct.
