Did Motown re-mix (or even re-record) any of the Ric-Tic material that they released? For example, the Fantastic Four and Edwin Starr's "Soul Master" albums.

There is a definite difference in sound with some of the songs. (Some of it might be explained by comparing, say, a Ric-Tic 45 with a UK Motown LP.)

Surely somebody must have some Ric-Tic and Motown records to compare? LOL

Hi Tony

I meant to comment on this earlier.

I recall when buying the Ric-Tic 45's and the Motown 45's that eg "Back Street" seemed weaker on the UK TM label.

Equally I recall thinking that "My weakness is you" was weaker on the "Soul Master" album than it was on the 45. ie not a Ric-Tic track.

I haven't made comparisons for years. So this might be a bit iffy :-)

Tell me which tracks you think were weaker if that's what you are on about.

Somebody mentioned on the forum, I think, that the 45 would always be punchier.

Although this may not be the best example, have a listen to the Ric-Tic 45 and Soul LP versions of I Don't Want To Live Without You. The percussion is much more upfront on the Ric-Tic version. The Soul version does not come to a sudden end like the Ric-tic one and so is longer, but it runs slightly faster (about one second per minute).

This difference in tempo is real and is not due to listening on different turntables (same Linn Sondek - not a cheap piece of kit - for both). Any explanations would be welcome!
