Now here's a story I heard a few years ago about
a song that's been one of my favorites for 28
years....................Love Won't Let Me Wait !
Bobby....tell me how true this story really is....
The " Love Won't Let Me Wait" session, took place
on a summmer day in 1974........Major Harris was
about to embark on a solo career from his group
The Delfonics, that same year. Bobby Eli and
his writing partner Gwen Woolfolk (who went under
writing name Vinnie Barrett), composed this tune
in 20 minutes, in his apartment. The tune was
recorded at the Sigma Sound Studio in Philadelphia. Of course session players were the
magnificent sounds of MFSB, with Bobby Eli
playing lead guitar.......Those gorgeous background singers were the late Barbara Ingram,
sisters Carla & Yvette Benson..........Barbara
did the moans and groans during the middle of the
song.........She did the moans so well, they
to lock the doors, so the guys couldn't get to
her !!............The atmosphere in the studio
had to be a romantic one, so they turned down all
the lights...............Major, had a little
light on his stand where he could sing the lyrics. The beautiful strings and horns were
conducted by the great Don Renaldo........"Love
Won't Let Me Wait", was featured on Major Harris'
first solo LP on Atlantic records, " My Way".....
Radio stations killed this LP cut, forcing it's
way, into a 45 single. The song hit No 1 on the
R&B charts on June 7, 1975, for one week........
Everytime I hear Barbara's moans and groans,
it truly puts me into romantic interlude !!!
Boy did she do a wonderful job on that song !!!
Peaceful journey, Barbara...........Bobby, I
must tell you, that you sir, are totally gifted
musician and songwriter........Thank you for
sharing the world your inner musical thoughts !!

Peace,

THANKS FOR THAT "CHANCELLOR"!!!...I MENTIONED THOSE MOANS AND GROANS ON ANOTHER THREAD...AND WAS WONDERING IF THE WRITERS AND PRODUCERS WORRIED ABOUT CERTAIN MAINSTREAM RADIO STATIONS LAYING OFF THE MATERIAL DUE TO WHAT SOME MIGHT HAVE PERCIEVED AS QUESTIONABLE CONTENT???...THEY WERE CERTAINLY GREAT EFFECTS WHICH FIT RIGHT INTO THE MATERIAL!!!...I JUST REMEMBER GETTING A RATHER UNFRIENDLY MEMO FROM MY STATION GENERAL MANAGER REGARDING A MILDLY SEXUALLY SUGGESTIVE BIT THAT WE DID ON A POPULAR ADULT CONTEMPORARY STATION THAT I WORKED AT!!!...STU

Mike,I have several corrections to make on the LWLMW story.Carla and Yvette are not sisters.
Its Carla Benson and Yvette Benton.
The doors of the studio were not locked aand there was no little light on Majors music stand as he did not do his vocals on that day.
Don Renaldo did not conduct the music as he is not a conductor of music he was the defacto leader which meant he got double scale for booking the mussicians. I in fact conducted the strings as do each individual who composes their respective arrangements.
There were certain shows who would not play the record due to its content so we did aa "clean' version sans the moans.
I have had at least fifty covers of the song as far as I know and there are no moans on any of them.

Mike, thank you so much for the wonderful compliments, my brother!!
