Isn't anyone having fun at the Clawson anymore? How about an update on Three's Company and the club. Karl in PA.

Karl,

I stopped by the Clawson about 3 weeks ago and met George, Gil and Dennis that night. We had a great time and the wife sat in for a tune. Three's Company is SMOOOOOOTH. George sounded great, Dennis was burnin' as usual and Gil's just too cool. The orignal guitarist was also great, but I can't recall his name. Over all it was a great time chatting with the guys and I know I'll be dropping in more frequently. Maybe we can use this thread as a means to let others know when any of us might be dropping by the Clawson. I heard Babbitt drops in when he's in town and that would give me the chance to gatch up with him. Unfortunately, they don't have drum kit on that gig, cause I would love to jam with those cats.

Amen Horse,if only they made little tiny collapsable drum sets we could carry like a guitar. Sometimes being a drummer is like being a Hammond B-3 player as far as tearing down and setting up.I should have stuck with the harmonica!!!!It would have made it a whole lot easier to go around jamming in this day of drum machines.

The day of one-man bands is almost on us.One person with a machine.
Oh well, I know the cheap-ass club owners will like it.

If any of you can make it, we'll be at the Clawson tomorrow night (Friday 1/24)...It's always fun, you never know who's going to show up, the band is great, and a good time is always had by all! It's the only place in town where you can get a good meal, dance, watch the groupies hit on the guys in the band, listen to Dennis Coffey, and watch that weird buy Bob who sits at the bar oogling all the women! Trust me, it's a lot of fun.

Millie, we'd love to make it tomorrow, but this fridays the annual Detroit St. Andrews Soc. Robert Burns Dinner." Tis the wearin of the kilts and the cutting of the haggis for us of Scottish blood". A big affair for us.
The next time anyone goes, mention it on this thread. It's a good way to stay in touch.
Slainte, Lynn

Lynn,
Will do. We're usually up there every Saturday night so whoever wants to join us is more than welcome! The Count will probably be up tonight, along with Johnny Ginger and Terri. Hope to see you and Sandy soon.

Millie,

Unfortunately, I read this thread too late and missed friday night. I will be dropping in on one of the very near future Saturday nights. Hopefully I will be able to introduce myself. Thanks for updating us on the Clawson. The food is great...The band is great...the atmosphere is great...but I'll pass on the Guy oggling the babes...! ;)

Lynn,

I'm with you all the way. Collapsable or not, I refuse to surrender to the Drum Machine syndrom. "Ain't Nothin' Like The Real Thang Baby...Ain't Nothin' Like The Real..Thang..! I just make sure one of my kits consist of an 18" kick, 10"x8" tom, 14" floor tom and 3" picolo snare, light hardware...easy in...easy out, but sings like a mother..!

Soulful Detroiters

I will be heading up to the Clawson tommorow night (Saturday Feb 1st)for anyone who interested. I would love to meet any of you who might happen to make it up. Just update the this thread if your going up and I'll be checking for updates before tommorow evening. I know Babbitt was suppose to be in town so maybe he'll stop by. Babbitt, if you read this thread I'd really love to hook up with you as my last email stated.

Hi Horse,
Dennis and I plan on being at the Clawson tomorrow night, however he's a little under the weather, so I won't know for sure until I talk with him.

You're right, the food is excellent, the band is great, the atmosphere is comfortable, and that goofy guy who oogles the women is strange indeed...I think his name is Bob.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Millie and Horse, I'm recovering from ANOTHER cold, but it's on the down-side of it. If I feel better by tonight,we'll be there.I have to check out "El Creepo" that Millie discribes. It seems like most clubs have their resident "Creepo".When your playing, it's interesting to watch them make their moves and be shot down by the ladies. They usually think they're invisible and the ladies don't notice. The two "Wild and Crazy Guys" that were on Sat. Night Live are perfect examples of the typical resident "Creepos" that hang out in bars.

When the weather change, I will make it to Clawson, if someone else will do the driving.

Lynn, Sis, Count,

Sorry we missed all of you Sat. night. I'm sure we'll hook up eventually. It seems like everyone is getting nailed with the latest string of virus. Hang in there..!

Sis, Yes, I live in the Detroit suburban area. I'm originally from the area, but spent a lot of time between the east and west coasts gigging. I've been back in the area for about 7 years. Look forward to meeting you.

Millie it was such a pleasure meeting and chatting with you. Your such a gem. (and you play a mean tamborine. :) Dennis, sorry we missed you. Hope you feel better. I'm looking forward to speaking with you in the near future.

As usual, "GUY" Gillis, George and Denny (3's Company)were very gracious and sounded great. Thanks guys for the great evening..!

Horse,
It was great meeting you too, along with MaryChris and your mother-in-law! I had a good time talking with you...we certainly covered a lot of ground!

Lynn...Nearly everyone at the Clawson last night had a cold of some sort...everybody I talk to is sick. Hopefully, we'll all be up to speed next Saturday night!

Count...You know you can always join us on Saturday nights...we all love you! Denny Cox's brother Mike came up last night...he said to say hi to you...so hi!

Sis...when the weather gets warmer, a lot of more of us will be out and about! This weather is making me crazy too...cabin fever I guess! When you come up to the Clawson you'll have to sing for us!

Millie - I haven't tried singing anything for over 10 years. (LOL) But I would love to hear your group along with Sue. What songs do you two sing in Clawson? Do they sell lobster tails there?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Millie (68.40.209.129) on Monday, February 03, 2003 - 09:36 pm:

Hi Sis,
Yes, they have lobster tail and it's very good. The group playing there, "3's Company" isn't my group, they're friends of ours. Sue doesn't come up to the Clawson anymore so I just play the tambourine and sing and do whatever else the guys want me to do!

When our David comes to Detroit over Memorial Day weekend, we'll be having a get together at the Clawson. I know David would like to meet you, and he especially would like to have Clay MacMurray stop by as well. Now we've got to work on Ralph to make sure he comes to town. He's got family here, so maybe he'll find a way!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Sue (64.12.101.166) on Monday, February 03, 2003 - 09:53 pm:

Millie -- (laugh)! I didn't know that I wasn't going up to the Clawson anymore -- You didn't tell me!

I wasn't up there while George was sick, and then the holidays hit, and I've been busy all these Saturdays so far. There was an emergency birth in my immediate family too so I've been helping a bit with a very small nephew.

I'm going to a party next Saturday, can't go then, but I've been waiting to see when a bigger group goes up. SteveS wants to go sometime, and I want to catch the Count and Lynn.

Ralph Terrana MUST come to Detroit in May!

David,
Let's start a new thread entited "BRING RALPH TERRANA BACK TO DETROIT", or one that says "DAVID MIELKE SEEN IN DETROIT...WHERE'S RALPH TERRANA?"
Either way, let's start a thread letting everyone know what'll be going on the weekend of Memorial Day! Also, you mentioned that you wanted everyone to come to the Clawson on Sunday...they aren't open on Sundays, so it'll have to be either Friday or Saturday night...whatever night we won't be at the Cass Cafe'.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Millie (68.40.209.129) on Tuesday, February 04, 2003 - 01:52 pm:

We've got a good group coming to the Clawson this (2/8) Saturday night, so whomever wants to join us is welcome. The Count will be at the Chicago Auto Show, but will definately be there in spirit! Hey Lynn...are you on the mend yet?

Horse...if you're not busy, why don't you and MaryChris join us? Dennis will be there so you two can talk "music!"

The more the merrier, I always say!!

Millie,

Thanks for the invite. We will do our best to be there, but will confirm up by Saturday via this thread. I'm going to have to lay off the great food up there because I'm trying to watch my girlish figure :) Had a great chat with Dennis last night. Thanks for your help.

Ralph My Brother!
Where have you been? Will you be coming to Detroit when David's (Mielke) here? It's Memorial Day weekend and the festivities are being planned as we speak! You won't want to miss this event big brother...and don't forget about the "children!" ...and don't forget me, as well as all your other friends in the Motor City!

Millie, Dennis & The Crew,

We won't be making it up the Clawson tonight. The old virus going around town has finally caught up with me. I'll probably be down for at least the weekend. Will catch up with everybody when I'm back on my feet. Have a great time tonight and send my regards to 3's Co.

You have read it here before a great time was had by all at the Clawson Steak House. What a warm and pleasant feeling to listen and talk to George K. after forty years. Seeing Guy and meeting Dennis Cox was fantastic. My party of six was not disappointed in the food or Three's Company. My brother John and his wife Joanne, nephew Dr. Mark Kendall, Chell and my wife Sue had a memorable evening to say the least. We can't wait to return! Former ROYALTONE.
