Giving Thanks

SoulfulDetroit.com FORUM: Archive - Beginning Feb 03: Giving Thanks

With the holiday season now upon us, there are a few things I want to give thanks to and for before I turn off the computer for the next few days.
TO THE SOULFUL DETROIT FAMILY - And I mean it when I say Family. We are all bound by one thing and that is our love & passion for music. Whether it's Motown, Philly, Memphis, Chi-Town, Muscle Shoals, East or West Coast - we seem to love it all. But most importantly, the love for the Motor City Sound. On a professional level you folks helped me accomplish much in my field (which alone would take up another thread!). Personally, I realize that I'm not the only crazy music fan in the world. I don't want to mention names only because I don't want to leave anyone out. I meant it when I said that I learned more from this website and forum than anything and anywhere else on the internet. To be able to talk to my "heroes" in the business reminds me that this world is just a small village with many who live here.
Thank you all for making this website an enjoyable experience. Have a peaceful & blessed Thanksgiving - I'll talk to you on Monday.
Best Regards Always,
Kevin L. Goins - "KevGo"

Thanks to everyone on the FORUM. This has been a wonderful experience for me and all of us.

Most importantly, let's thank God for putting Dave and Lowell together and having given them the talent to put this thing together and to Ralph for keeping the "family" together.

God Bless you all +.

Well, to add on to the feeling, I just want to thank everyone in this soulful family for making it a treat to come to the computer everyday and see what new, fun pieces of information were exchanged. My knowledge of all things soul-related has increased by leaps and bounds, and I owe it to the most "SOULED" out cats in the world. And this place isn't just a site on the web for me. I've never ever been able to fully discuss music, because either my friends my age don't like it or my older friends aren't as INTO it as I am. So when I come here and say something, they are usually words I've waited 15-something years to say to kindred music fans. Through this place, I can connect with people who feel as passionately as I do... that's when I realize there are other people with whom I can connect!

I wish everyone longevity, happiness, BLESSINGS, and anything good that is also good for you. And of course, I wish you all with a ton of money with which you can buy the record collection of your dreams! :-)

Well said everybody! - it is difficult to communicate and share with those who do not understand our passion. I will be thinking of your Thanksgiving holiday whilst at the theatre tomorrow evening seeing '125th Street' a soul extravaganza (for just £17 a ticket!!). Have a great time and that also means a great big thank you to David and Lowell for their hard work on this site too.

making great music or love great music. God Bless all the Funk Bros and their families and they get a BIG Thanks for giving us a wonderful xmas present of music and film. David,Lowell and Ralph you're the best for putting so many lost relationships together

Happy Holidays to everyone! This site has been a great place to meet new friends and reconnect with old friends. Thanks to David, Lowell and Ralph. After playing the music again in Pittsburgh in front of a live audience and seeing old friends like Edwin Starr, Dennis Edwards, Freda Payne, Johnny Bristol, and Mary Wilson and meeting new friends like TJ Lubinsky and Harry Weinger, I can tell you the music still lives!

Thank you God for putting positive energy in our lives, and thank you for taking negative energy away from us.

Thank you Ralph, Sue, the Count and the Countess, Millie, Dennis, David, Lowell, Dave&Pam Kovarick, George Katsakis, Threes Company band, Andy Alonzo, Nabay/Nicky Robins, Bob&Ann Kreiner/Babbitt, Ed Wolfrum& his wife, Mel and then some, Nick Palise, and everyone that was there (in the days)you've all brought back so many memories that a lot of us shared many years ago when we were just "scufflin"musicians trying to feed our families and shoot for the big time.

This is the REAL big time, the new and old friends that we have here!!!

I just want to say that I too have so much to be thankful this year.
I will never forget that that magical evening back in 2001 when I happened upon Soulful Detroit.
I reluctantly posted, thinking that it was only a "Detroit" thing. But after I posted, I was pleasantly surprised by all of the responses which I have received and the fact that my music was not forgotten, that it gave me a renewed impetus to continue in a forward motion.
It also awakened my crazy sense of humour which has been lying dormant for years.
Where else could I have connected with so many great people both old and new, who share my passion. Where else could I have shared my knowledge and anecdotes and incidents which have made up the fabric of my very existense?
Soulful Detroit should be renamed Soulful Universe, as it has spread so far and wide across all continents and then some!!
I also want to thank everyone once again for cheering me up during my hospitalization and subsequent recovery.
God Bless everyone on Soulful Detroit!!

Eli (Phillysoulman)

Lynn, I was a fungi to be on the road with!!
I was always the jokester and we all had a blast because of it. I could write stories based on road incidents, some of which were daring and treading on thin ice as well. But a good sense of humoue is prerequisite. It is a shame that some people take things too seriously and as a result have bottled up emotions.
Just let go and enjoy, CAPICE?????

Bless you all and thank you for making such a wonderful forum. For those Detroit ex-pats here is a picture from today's parade taken from the corner of Charlotte and Woodward looking north. Under the clown's arm is the former Beth El synagogue, now the Bonstelle Theater.

So, how is everyone in their post Thanksgiving state, huh. HUH????? I don't hear you!!!!
Must be the relaxing effect of the tryptophan which is contained in turkey meat.
Do you think my man Paulie would know what tryptophan is?? I DON'T THINK SO!!
Anyway, I hope that everyone has recovered sufficiently to post their post Thanksgiving posts.( no pun intended)
I wonder what the Thanksgivings were like in 60's Detroit?? I can just envision a giant dinner table with all of the stars and all of the trimmings!!! I can hear the Tempts sing a chorus of We Gather Together To Ask The Lords Blessings, with Eddie on lead!!! Wow, I just had a deja vu expierience!!
Anyway gotta go and partake of the leftovers.
Dont wanna do the Turkey Trot!!

Bye for now.

Eli

Beautiful picture, Lowell. Made me so homesick I could cry.
Where does santa go if there isn't a 12th floor?

From the Pacific Northwest, my wife and I wish everyone A MOST JOYOUS AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON, and our BEST WISHES FOR 2003.

Sincerely,
Doug and Dora Shirk
