WBGO 88.3 FM's Felix Hernandez outdid himself this past Saturday. If you do not know about Felix and his show "THE RHYTHM REVIEW", I would like to fill you in about this great program. "THE RHYTHM REVIEW" is on the radio every Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM Eastern Standard Time. It is a Public Broadcasting Station that is also on the internet for all who are not in the United States or cannot pick up the station on the radio.

This past Saturday, the show featured The Women of Motown. Which included:

Florence Ballard
Chris Clark
Carolyn Crawford
Brenda Holloway
Mable John
Gladys Knight
Marvelettes
Claudette Rogers
Supremes
Tammi Terrell
Vandellas
Velveletts
Mary Wells

He played the first female that was signed to Motown. Berry Gordy signed Mable John, she was the sister of Little Willie John. The song "I guess there's no love" was a bluesy ballard written by Berry.

Felix did two versions of the song "Every little bit hurts". The rendition sung by Brenda Holloway and the one sung by Gladys Knight.

I marveled at the lead voice of Florence Ballard on the song "My heart will understand". I was also just as suprised hearing the voice of Claudette Roger (Robinson) leading on the song "After All". This song was featured on the 1961 first album HI WERE'RE THE MIRACLES.

Felix played the only hit Chris Clark ever had which was the song "Loves gone bad" and the Carolyn Crawford song "My smile is just a frown".

Felix gave me great joy when he played the A and B side of several records. I can't remember the last time that I've heard "Beechwood 4-5-7-8-9" and the other side "Someday Someway".

If you missed the show on Saturday, you missed a real treat!

Hey Gang:
To get Felix Hernandez' show, log onto www.wbgo.org and go to the page where they stream the station (you'll need RealPlayer to hear the station). For more info on Felix check out his website www.classicsoul.com.

Note to Vonnie:
Brenda Holloway also cut a version of "Every Little Bit Hurts" for Del-Fi Records (prior to Motown) that wasn't released until they did a "Del-Fi Girl Groups" CD anthology a few years ago. It's very different from the Motown version (no strings, different lyrics and a FAT Hammond organ in the background!).

That's all for now...

Hello everyone,

I really miss Felix Hernandez's show when he used to be on Jammin 105. I used to catch his show on Sunday nites, which was easier for me than trying to catch him early Saturday mornings. Still, his show is sorely missed & I will try to see if I can catch his station in my area. It's because of him, I was able to hear one of David's pre-Tempt recordings, "I'm In Love", the 5 Stairsteps "Dear Prudence", Stevie Wonder's "Purple Teardrops", as well as other songs that don't get airplay at all. I'm so sorry I missed this show on Motown's ladies. This must've been a real treat! :o)

Common:
WBGO 88.3FM is based in Newark, NJ and has a very strong signal (I was able to get his show when I lived in Midtown Manhattan and the Upper East Side). Like you, I never missed Felix's show when it was on the now-defunct Jammin 105. The advantage to him being back on WBGO is that he's able to play a lot more rarities and "lost tracks" than he did on Jammin. Since he's on the 10am to 2pm Saturday shift, we won't have to wake up too early to listen!
Peace,
KevGo

I know it will be worth the wait.

Extremely interested in that building.

Let us not forget the great Liz Lands.
When I first found "Keep Me" with the Tempts on backing vocals,at East Coast distributors a one stop that specialised in cut-out Motown,I was floored, and this was in 1965!!!
I found a ton of stuff there that I wish I had now!!! I was just a kid, how was I to know!!
