MEL; YOUR POSTS ARE INVALUABLE TO THIS FORUM AND I FOR ONE WOULD CERTAINLY MISS YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS. Seems you got attacked. Btw, I talked to my Uncle, he said thanks for the warm thoughts.
If you send me your email address, when I get some of his rare photo's scanned, and some stories from he and his wife, I'll send it to you. lrott@corpinfo.com

I'll let Ralph resolve this but please let it be known that Davie Gordon is an excellent guy.
I've defended African Americans on here, I will also defend gays.
If people can't talk maturely and with compassion on this site then why don't we just shut the whole FUCKING thing down.

What is up here?Man,remember"STICKS AND STONES MAY BREAK MY BONES,BUT NAMES WILL NEVER HURT ME"
MEL,The Count said he hadn't recieved your E-Mail as of yet 5:00PM. here in the the big D.I told the count what was happening here, and he said, hey professor,I dont want to hear it.I very seldom post anything here on the forum,I just really enjoy reading all the interesting things,to me count is my authority,he always was the word man of the five invictas, and had so many musical ideas in his head.I believe he was hearing the early motown sounds in his head before it was born.Because he always was saying ,man,i hear these cool sounds and a flute and some snappy snare drumming, and some vocal harmonys in the back round, but just cant seem to produce what i hear.So what good is a producer if he cant produce what i hear. But to the point here, count said a very harsh statement, but think about this.It sounds like the forum is starting to live up to the DETROIT MOTO,"the murder city".Why should it have to happen here? Believe me Ralph Daveie, and David,i'll do what ever i can to see this resolved and and lets be one big happy family again.Like the count said,it was the happy times when we were groving all over the big D,and thats what this is about, remembering the happy times, and enjoying shareing these stories and musical history's.I dont think the four letter word should be used in any of the postings, but just read the post or jump to the next and dont point a finger. The blades did'nt hurt anybody but the count, and he is sorry,so DAMMIT MEL AND COUNT,get your ass-s back here so i can once again enjoy reading all the fun things, musical things, careers, sad and funny, technical, etc.I love it just sitting back, drinking a few cold ones and listening to all you fine people talk.Oh yea, count is very hung over today. He said his hair hurts,he has a rod nock in his head like a small block ford motor. Please patch it up guys, its for your beautiful people here, and those in rock and roll heaven.Thats the counts next big break,as he calls it,hand pick all the greats and start jamming till the detroit boys come home.
peace,love,and rock and soul.mr.bassman

I propose that if a posting is not properly presented with paragraphs to highlight each thought, it should be put on probation.
This slop is a discrace to the stated principals of the forum. Without police work, no high standards can be achieved. David has tried to put it on Ralph.
You can not regulate a public forum. It will grow larger and larger, until it bursts. Unless it gets new funding.
David and Ralph are doomed, with their approach.

This forum has serious issues. StuBass's kiss-up posts gives a new meaning to the word drivel. Can somebody muzzle this nerd and his I rode to Pawtucket with Gwen Owens to a gig in a station wagon NONSENSE?
And Stu that Temptations' pic you so diligently sent to DM for posting was much to do about nothing. That pic is common and was not worth all the trouble. WE ALL HAD SEEN IT BEFORE MANY TIMES. You made yourself look like a fool. By the way, the first Temptation's publicity pic featured Elbridge Bryant not David Ruffin.
KevGo, get a life! Go talk about your gangster friends somewhere else. Kevgo will have some believing Nat Tarnapool was a great man when the opposite is closer to the truth.
DM stick to DJing and Ralph, engineering: you both suck as forum moderators.
Last but not least, since when did women become so prominent on message forums involving oldies? What happened to cooking, cleaning and obeying your man? Sue and Sis's posts are much like Sue's Women of Motown book, take the Mary Well chapter out and you have a bunch of hackneyed crap. A cut and paste job. THE NAMES ATTRIBUTED TO SOME OF THE PEOPLE PICTURED IN THAT BOOK ARE WRONG!

Dear My Two Cents,
First of all, please let us know who you are...obviously you've been on the forum for awhile because you seem to know a lot about what's been discussed here. I'm sure David and Ralph would agree with me when I say that if someone has offended you, then let us apologize on their behalf. We all care about one another here, and yes, there have been a few times that feathers were ruffled, however, for the most part, we all respect each other, and are still a part of this wonderful site. We have one thing in common, and that's the love of the music. That's what this forum is about, THE LOVE OF THE MUSIC.
Please write and let us know what it was that has made you so angry...we're here, and we're listening.
By Ritchie Hardin (62.254.0.7) on Saturday, November 02, 2002 - 06:13 pm: |
Sheesh! I'm off the Forum for a couple of days and I come back to find a battle zone... Well, if Mel's out there somewhere, don't desert us - your down to earth humour and great posts are always a good read. Don't forget, Bob & Earl need you to help me out. And has the Count taken umbrage over something? Steve - come back please. I don't always agree with you, but I do enjoy reading it!
As for Two Cents... I'm sure we might already know you under another guise - what's the big beef? Like Ralph says, we're like a big family - an extended family and 99% of the time we get on fine. To Hell with the 1% - it's the getting on that's important, not the falling out. So let's get on, and get on with what we're here for - remember? The Music.

RALPH, DAVID, MILLIE, RICHIE, AND ALL; AT SOME POINT WE MUST ALL REALIZE THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST BEYOND REHABILITATION. SOMEONE "BUSTING A CAP" ON ME DOESN'T PHASE ME IN THE LEAST, AND I WOULD JUST AS SOON LET IT ROLL OFF MY BACK...BUT WHEN SOME FOOL ATTACKS MY FRIENDS ON THIS FORUM, FOR NO GOOD REASON, THAN I MUST RESPOND. Stu,
Thanks for the words of support. I have put out my plea for the Count and Mel to return to the forum. I hope they do. Their presence will be missed by all of us if they don't. As far as Two Cents, he can say whatever he chooses. It's no skin off my nose. I've dealt with idiots all my life. If this place is so distasteful to him, don't come here.

The attitude of My 2 Cents reminds me of the childish talk of Ogden The Terrible. It's a feeble attempt to incite. It don't play around here. To say that David and Ralph suck as moderators is completely the opposite of what I'd expect. I simply disagree completely.
The 'family' atmosphere at SD is just that, and it's warm and it's loving and it's accepting and it's Mature. Show me somewhere else where there's so much LOVE and RESPECT. I'm thinking someone needs some love out there.
Come on (63.188.32.32), you know you need the luv.

Larry,
I agree with you and will always maintain that SD is one of, if not, the most civil places on the web. Whatever happened over the last couple of days can be chalked up to a series of misunderstandings.I'm willing to meet anyone half way and that includes Two Cents. If anyone has any suggestions on how to run this forum better I would like to hear about it. The people that come here is what this place is all about. As far as I'm concerned SD is a haven from the rest of the screwy world and I'm sure most of you feel the same.

Guess I'm going to be contrarian again, but I'm raising my hand to say that objecting to the offhanded slurring of gay people is not "politically correct," it's just the right thing to do. I'm not surprised that straight white folks have no idea what it's like to be called wrong and second class your whole life long, and can't imagine why one would start taking exception to it somewhere in your thirties or forties.
I'm here to tell you that yes, being called a name is indeed tiresome, and I am too goddamned old to take my time to educate someone who really doesn't get that the slur "nxxxxx" is just as serious as "fxxxxx," am I clear?
Don't tell me it's my job to be tolerant of intolerance of me until someone in your class of people is beaten to near death and tied to a fence in the desert to die.
By Ed Wolfrum (165.121.215.151) on Sunday, November 03, 2002 - 09:16 pm: |
To all on the Forum:
I think it is time for all here to remember one word...CHARITY.
To use Christ's words: It is kind, patient, not self serving, it is tolerant, is not puffed up and so on...Let's all treat one another as the musical family we are supposed to be.
That goes most particularly for a most proud Brian Chin.
Mr. Chin, your comments are noted, but when you treat the rest of the forum with respect, you will be respected. Nuff Said!!!
Ralph, you are doing a fine job and keep up the good, no...wonderful work.
Mel, forget the pride and get back on the forum. We need you.
We need all of you.
By Ralph (209.240.198.62) on Sunday, November 03, 2002 - 09:44 pm: |
Ed, Thanks for the encouraging words.
Brian...Your thoughts are noted and must be regarded by all here with utmost consideration. I'm sure no malice was intended. However you are right on the money, and from your perspective it would have been better not said at all. So let's try and learn from one another here. I still think this is a very civil place to hang and we really are this big group of friends so lets get back to it OK?
By r (165.235.75.119) on Wednesday, November 06, 2002 - 04:25 pm: |
I too, have been gone for a while. It is a shame to see that some of those I learned so much from do not wish to participate in the Forum. I think part of the apathy stems from an abundance of messages that seem to reflect the thought that, if I disagree with you, your point has no validity. I had a discomforting thread going a couple of months back, and to me it seemed that more than a few people were not reading or understanding my point, so it was met with some venom. I saw that with AH, and the Count, both of who told me some things I didn't know...hell, if it was not for the Count, my video collection would be missing very valuable components...so this Forum needs people like that or it will be less appealing. The same needs to be said for Mel...how could his contribution be lost? I think what needs to happen is a broadening of minds to the point of, if you disagree, fine...don't make it a personal attack, or be condenscending. If someone feels strong enough about their opinion to put it in writing, try to understand where that person is coming from BEFORE trying to tell them where you are coming from...everybody has had different life experiences that shape their opinions, but in the end my opinion, your opinion, his or her opinions, are just like assholes, everybody's got one, and more than a few stink...
By David Meikle (62.252.128.6) on Wednesday, November 06, 2002 - 04:50 pm: |
The best period on the forum was the first 6 months. None of the people you mention were around at that time.
I really don't know how many times I have to say it but I just wanted people to act maturely and sensibly on here.
There is no way we could have let you get away with suggesting that Bobby Eli was a racist.
There is no way we could have people uploading "comic" images of Carol Kaye.
There is no way we could have someone making a personal attack on Mel by suggesting that he sees someone that can remove his head from his asshole.
There is no way I will have AH coming on here in a most aggressive manner suggesting that a forum member is making statements which they clearly have not.
There is no way that I will have gay friends on this forum subjected to one persons negative view of gay people.
Finally, I bet you've enjoyed a lot of what you've seen on here......and it's all been free of charge.....and as a result of a massive amount of work.
To say I'm pissed off with some of the assholes that have soiled it is a MASSIVE UNDERSTATEMENT.
David

Permission to say something? I have been busy and have only just caught up with recent events on the forum. I guess communicating on a forum on the Internet means we do not have the sound or vision element of human contact and sometimes wires get crossed. Mine do for sure, so I end up reading things a few times before the point sinks in. When I listened to Radio Magnetic recently, from Glasgow on the Internet, I had to listen hard because of the strong Scottish accent by both David and FrankM and the bandwidth of the broadband connection. I do not mean to de disrespectful to BlueYonder, who supply our broadband at home or indeed my Scottish friends from Glasgow when I say this. When I met Ade in person, who frequents the forum on occasions, I was led to believe he was from Glasgow and when he spoke to me I heard a geordie accent. Then he told me he works in Glasgow and was not from Glasgow. There is also the language element between parties and the slang words used, which are confusing to. One, which is used here, is 'on the money'! I had never heard of this before and I was not certain what it meant. I actually use this term now, because of what it means and is appropriate in my communication, albeit an American saying (I think)! I know I ramble, but all this and our differing personalities will mean at some time, occasional ups and downs.
For me, I learn so much by dropping in on a daily basis to the forum and still class this web site as the best thing on the net. I agree to keep respectful if they are the rules. I feel I am making friends with whom ultimately I may meet face to face for all sorts of reasons. I have met three people from the forum and it is truly a wonderful feeling to see them face to face and learn even more. Detroit next year, I want to come and meet everybody, listen, watch and learn! SoulfulDetroit opens more doors than it closes. If anybody gets locked out, just knock, one of us will let you in - one day it could be me.
Mel - look forward to seeing you back on the forum. We have not stopped talking about that great record 'Dance, dance, dance' by The Casualeers!
Soulie Dave - I read you are coming down to London for the SITSOM Nov15/16th? Which day? I am going to both showings. Maybe we could meet for a chinwag and beer! I am meeting others on Saturday, but it would be good to chat. I know you may be visiting your daughter and may be busy. I will be carrying a full box of tissues into to the movie and an empty one out! Shall I wear a carnation or my 'Gordy' tee shirt I bought from the Motown Museum?
Cheers
Carl

I've been working for three days to get things settled down here, and just as things seem to be getting back to normal you come and blow off your stupid mouth. I deleted your tasteless and ill informed posting. David has tried to make a place for all of us to join together. Personally, I have been re-united with some of the biggest heavyweights in the business and I owe it all to David Miekle. I don't need you to mess things up for the majority of the great people who come here and enjoy the experience this place has to offer. I think it best you just stay away and that will solve the problem for all of us. Keep up the crap and I'll bar your entrance into the forum. Please understand my position here. I mean what I say. Don't mess with me!

Thank you so very much for (again) trying to keep the peace on this website. I come out in the morning, go to work, and come back out to see this mess. I would hate to see you having to screen folks prior to posting so thanks for telling certain ones to chill.
AS FOR TWO CENTS:
As you can probably tell I DO have a life otherwise I wouldn't be on this wonderful website exchanging ideas, thoughts and information. I'm not gonna defend myself against the likes of you because obviously you have some serious emotional issues at hand. I can suggest a friendly psychologist (who happens to be my sister)who can help you through your issues because I certainly do not have the time or patience.
TO EVERYONE ON SOULFUL DETROIT:
It saddens me to have to read such pointed drivel on what can be a wonderful place for us to converge. It's disgusting jealousies like 2Cents that I see almost every day in the entertainment business. The last place I need to see it is on this forum. I know, I know.."sticks & stones..." but I sure don't need to see this on what's supposed to be a fun place to visit and stay.
Peace To All (and go to hell, Two Cents..)

I found this site a few months ago, and continue to visit it because of my love of American 60's soul music. Compared to all my friends I know an awfull lot about 60's soul and Motown. Compared to some on here I know sod all, which is why this site is so important for me and so important for the music. I'd rather not comment on some of the posts above for fear of adding fuel to the fire. I have oppinions about everyhting, don't we all, and my oppinion is as valid as the next persons no matter how many dues they've paid. I don't want to get involved in politics or personalities. The music is far more important than someones ego.
Carl. I have got tickets for the Saturday showing, I'm driving down Sat morning to my Daughters. Going to see the movie then I dont know what! My Daughter works in the media and is trying to find out if there is anything happening after the show. She is very good at this and has blagged her way into all sorts of high profile events. So I don't know anything at this moment. We could end up just going for a pint in Islington where she lives. We will be in seats F34,35,36. I will look out for a Gordy tee shirt. it would be nice to say hello. Talking of the Motown museum, I hope to get to Detriot pretty soon. I've been to the States several times, but never anywhare near Detroit. Motown is a must sometime in my life, and I would hope the good folks of Detroit, via this site would give me good advice on what to see, what not to see. Where to go, where not to go. I guess thats all I have to say. Gotta put Bernadette on again from the SITSOMS, awesome.

It's people like you that have enriched this forum. We all come from everwhere and we all have opinions. And we all learn from one another. Thanks for being here.

RALPH; DEATH SENTENCE FOR "GUESS WHO" AND "TWO CENTS"...GOOD JOB. WE ALL APPRECIATE YOUR TIRELESS EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF THIS FORUM, AND FOR ANY "JERK" TO COME ALONG AND QUESTION YOUR AND DAVID'S INVOLVEMENT IS AN INSULT TO US ALL. IT WOULD SEEM THAT THESE CREEPS WOULD HAVE SOMETHING BETTER TO DO WITH THEIR LIVES THAN TO ANNOY OTHERS JUST TRYING TO COMMUNICATE ABOUT MATTERS OF MUTUAL INTEREST. I GUESS IF ONE GREW UP GETTING THEIR ASSES KICKED EVERY DAY ON THEIR WAY HOME FROM SCHOOL LIKE "GW" AND "TC", PERHAPS THE ONLY REVENGE ONE GETS IS TO ANNONOMOUSLY PESTER AND IRRITATE OTHERS WHILE HIDING BEHIND A KEYBOARD. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND ON BEHALF OF EVERYONE...THANKS! P.S. MEL & COUNT...WE MISS YOU...STU

Thanks Stu,
I just feel it is time to get this forum back to what it is about. I want Mel and the Count back also. I never wanted them to leave. But in all honesty, I'm tired of begging and trying to placate egos. Either one is in or out. I'll try and work something out in the future that may address and hopefully temper any misunderstandings that arise. For the most part, that isn't even neccessary here.

Ralph ;
I'd like to second Kev's "thanks" to you for attempting to keep the peace; I'm glad this place exists. Whether it's fashionable or not , I aspire to political correctness - however , I feel there's a HUGE difference between posting words or pictures that in retrospect may not be wise (or may be misguided attempts at humor) and someone (like say "guess Who" or "2 cents") spewing mean-spirited personal attacks.

A phone call tonite, one of many over the last week about things going on here, which I really dont care to read about, because disturbing things only make me all that more disturbed and that takes even more away from what this MUSIC site is supposed to be all about,Well,I promised to myself that I would only read the posting I was told to at lease read because it concerns friends that matter, which I did.The NOVEMBER 2,8:21 pm.I wont stay here long,so I would just like to add my no-cents worth, that is between the men here, not the women.LEAVE THEM OUT OF IT .IT DONT INVOLVE THEM,AND THEY HAD NO SAY-SO anywhere in anyone of the discrepinces here or any other thread(dammit I still cant spal)They say women should be seen and not heard, well you seen them here, but you didn't hear them say any s--t about anyone to provoke a war of words,or put down anybody here,or create a thread of finger pointing or abusive name calling. They have all been women like with the best in manners and showed respsct to all.(even me,of all people)so i'll get the h--l out now and close by saying,PLEASE LEAVE THE LADYS ALONE AND,and remember,it's only between the guys. I hope it someday gets cleaned up once and for all.:a line from BOBBY DARIN,goodbye CRUEL WORLD.

Thanks LT....
Hey Count. As far as I'm concerned you showed your face again so that puts you back on the forum. You could be the Count in Charge of Defending the Forum's Fairer Sex,
Or CCDFFS. OK? In al seriousness, you can do your part in the healing process here by just coming back and being the Count.

Unfortuneatley, when I wrote my previous message above, I had not seen that rood posting. It must have been posted seconds before mine last night. I did see it after mine was uploaded. However, Ralph, I am so pleased it was deleted. It was a minor interuption only. May I say, in good faith, that I feel there are one or two postings I think are coming from visitors especially written to provoke attention and not dealing with our agenda. I know from the ip addresses and ISP information where they are, not that it makes any difference. I can almost tell you which city these postings originate. I also feel that batch of viruse mail we all received is connected somewhere in the dark past, which has stopped now. I think when the boat starts to rock, we have an intruder, so win, place or show, they are the loser!! (copyright Carl Dixon 2002!!)
The Count - I am hoping to meet you next year and attend one of the musical gigs you are involved in. If you don't post so often that's fine, at least drop in and say hello now and then.
Soulie Dave - my seat is: K28. I will give you a wave and I promise to chew the popcorn during the load bits!

Hey Ralph,
If the crap keeps up,it would be very easy to make this a password forum and since David has most of our real emails he could forward us the password and that would keep all folk with other motives out of our SANDBOX. Sometimes you need to use the scent of a CAT to keep out the RATS. Or we could all do it the old fashion way and put the total ignore on the stupid stuff!!!!!!!!! No response works!!!!!!!!!!!!!This is our sanctuary and WE don't have to change our past, our feelings, our thoughts, memories, and secrets for anyone ON or OFF the Planet!!!!!!!!!! Life is too short to waste it on going toe to toe with outsiders. PEACE

Ain't this a mammy-jammer.
Lets unclench those buttocks folks and ignore the lowlife slime that occationally pop up on any site.
Ignore them and they'll slither away!!!
Lets get back to trading stories about life on the road, who played on what session, and other Detroit info.
We have enough problems in this world without getting our shorts in a bunch over some invisible slime that we don't know or care about!
This is the only comment I will make on invisible slime.
Stay tuned for more life on the road comments in the future.Enough commenting on some psycotic assholes bullshit.
Wheres grandpa Robert the Bruce when we need him. He'd come up with a good dungeon for the slime of the world!!!
Enough said!!!

I mean no disrespect here, and I only say this because I love a variety of musical styles (but most especially Detroit soul) and I believe in giving credit where credit is due.
It was James Darren, and not Bobby Darin, who had the hit recording of 'Goodbye Cruel World'. With all that he recorded in his too short life, Bobby Darin may have also recorded it- but many of us associate 'Goodbye Cruel World' with James Darren.

To The Soulful Detroit Family:
I'm glad to see that almost all of us are on the same page in regards to respecting one another. Now let's get back to the music....
If anyone watched the Fox Morning Show in the NYC area the Funks performed with the Supremes' Mary Wilson earlier this morning (I couldn't watch it because I was in transit en route to work). Did anyone catch it?

By KevGo (64.115.26.80) on Thursday, November 07, 2002 - 12:29 pm: |
Carl:
The Fox News Channel may have aired a story on the Funks but the Morning Show airs on Channel 5 here in NYC.

My colleague here at work reckons he saw something about it on Fox News, which we downlink and re-transmit over the UK! I will investigate.

In the immortal wors of Rodney King, "Why Can't We All Just Get Along?"
Let us go back to the good old days when the were "check numbers" and wonderful detail about the music which we all cherish so much.
I think that any negitivity should be automatically deleted.
So let us all go "back to our roots" and build upon the foundation of what this forum was meant to be.....Soulful Detroit and all things Northern.
Peace, Eli
