AAWWW MEL,thanx for that kind word and the intrest. In some of the past archives there are somethings of my juvenile self and refuseing to ever grow-up.It would probably be a boring thread due to I was just a want to be and always was a perfectionist,so if I could of been happy with what I and we (The 5ive INVICTAS )had, success might have been a full time part of my musical life.Even though I got to be with many of the greats that you see and read about here, and made so many friends with from being in the MOTOWN (DETROIT)area durring those ass kicking times.I've always been a doo-wop fan and live for the doo-wop sound.I might get a little deeper into my past and present latter, but I sure need help in my GRAMMER and SPEllING and TYPING,I was always a hell raiser and was just a hi-school drop in.I would drop in from time to time. One thing that is a every day memory that I think about is I had a chance to be a drummer for "THE ROYALTONES",this was an early start of my drummin years, but when "BROTHER GEORGE "THE KAT" seen my drums,he said man your drums are too UGLY to be a "ROYALTONE".So right he was because they were old and non matching.I cried for a long time, and when I told my parents this, and that they better buy me a new and modern set of drums or I'll quit school and leave home.I left home and my mother got hold of my brother(DADDY-O)and said they would buy new drums if I went back to school and came home.Well,I went back home, went to Anderson music store, got a brand new set of "SLINGERLAND GENE KRUPA MODEL BLUE SPARKLE DRUMS,went back to school the day after and quit the next day.But just think,if GEORGE would of let me join the "ROYALTONES",they would of never got to the top of the ladder, and became as successful as they did.by having one of the finest drummers on this earth as LITTLE BO "BILL SAVICH".R.I.P.BO.When GEORGE gets well maybe we can reminise a little more on this. But this is just a start for now,as I do become very boring.I've been an auto KUSTOMISER" and KUSTOM painter all my life even durring my musicial carrier, and still to this day,I've built and painted many KARS for the rich and famous and am featured in over 25 hot rod and other KUSTOM magizines. If you ever seen the movie "COBRA",I did the MERCS for that movie, and just resently, did a HOT ROD for LINDA VAUGHN(the first lady of motorsports and better known as MISS HURST SHIFTER)I better leave now MEL,more latter if your interest grows.Thanx again MEL for the interest and am so glad we became friends here.Hope to meet someday soon.Where are you located?I'll be in ITALY in JAN.2003,I know there must be some northern soul clubs there somewhere, let me know if you or anyone else knows of any in MILAND ITALY. P.S. I can already hear RALH saying,:shut the f---up.Sorry RALPH.

Hey Count, what more could a person ask for listening to good music on WLAC with Gene Noble playing the Moonglows,Five Satins,Dells,Dubs.A custom 50 Merc.parked nearby and the smell of Lacquer.Wash that down with a good cold bottle of beer(the kind you needed a opener for) just doesn't get any better then that..

It sounds like you have the same outlook on life as I do. My favorite saying is "Growing old is mandatory" but "Growing up is optional"

Regards
Dick Gamble

HEY MEL,thanks man.So glad to hear your a d00-wop lover. So many great groups back then and even today. There are new groups forming the d00-wop sound and so many reuniting,as long as an origial member or two are still around, then I believe in them being back together.(yea-bomp-shobe-doobe-bomp,yep-yep-yep-yep-bomp,well I got a pal his name is MEL,yea-bomp,getting to know him sure is swell,brrrrrrrrrrr-dom-bedo-bedom,wha,wha,wha-whhoooo,this kat MEL is kool as hell,whooly-gobah-bob-bobah-gob). Oh well, anyhow MEL it sure is swell rapping with you and shareing our love of music and lives together.Let me just say one thing here about what got me into doo-wop,and this is when doo-wop wasnt even known as doo-wop yet. When we first started putting our group together,we were just a lot of loud chording and drum pounding, realy no musical notes to speak of(about 1957)then when GET A JOB by THE SILHOUTTES came out,I fliped the record over and played "BING BONG",man right there and then my AUDIO G-SPOT was hit.Today the 5 guys in my KAR KLUB that sing with me,we do this song and it is still bad as hell.If you have this song, play the flip side, you'll agree with me.(my, DEBORHA,shes gone away, come back to me one day and stay, and set my poor heart free,dim-adim-adim-ahh-dim-dim-dim-dim)and dig the bad ass bass singing, just as kool as MELVIN FRANKLIN and ROBERT BATEMAN.Mel,I hope we can continue on like this, because there are so many MOTOWN groups that I concider hard core DOO_WOP .The early MOTOWN sound was breaking out all over, but ,it was still the doo-wop sound, tight harmony,non-sence syllables, and human bass sounds that no musical insturment could ever duplicate. After all,the human voice was the first musical insturment, and thats what took me to MARV JOHNSON,and I could'nt stop there. But everything I was trying to prove to my band of white boys and was looking for a break in acheiving the sound I could hear, but could not produce, became more stronger and larger, with the proof of what went on and what we have here.Lets face it(you other 5ive INVICTAS,MOTOWN was bigger than CONGRESS,and MOTOWN won) I'am starting to piss myself off MEL.Good seeing you hear.E-MAIL me your phone # and I'll call you sometime. Hello Mel,count says to e-mail him your phone #.
He dont care if it is in liverpool. You will love talking with him. He's been a very bad boy here, even though I dont think it was anything to condemn and I'am sure everyone else thought it was very cool and innocent. It's too bad he didn"t get the chance to tell about when Bobby Darin used the blade when he was singing MACK THE KNIFE.A really neat story.COUNT has left the forum. But he is still one of the coolest cats I've ever known and so good hearted and yes, very crazy, and one hell of a drummer.Count,we all love you man .
