Deborah,
Do you mean a gap in your collection or a gap in the discographies you have seen?

Regards,
Ken

DEBORAH; ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ANY PARTICULAR TIME FRAME..EARLY DAYS WITH JERRY BUTLER ETC; OR SOME OF THE LATER MATERIAL? ONE LP THAT I REALLY ENJOYED IS TITLED "YOUNG MODS FORGOTTEN STORY", I BELIEVE ON BUDDAH RECORDS. IT WAS RELEASED SOMETIME AROUND 67. I HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING MR. CURTIS MAYFIELD R.I.P. ONCE IN DETROIT IN AROUND 66 OR 67. A VASTLY UNDERAPPRECIATED TALENT. GOOD LUCK! STUBASS

Dennisfan,
That site is what Deborah meant when she said she tried "amg".

Ken

SORRY DEBORAH; THE LP THAT I SPOKE OF MAY WELL HAVE BEEN ISSUED ON THE "CURTOM" LABEL IF NOT "BUDDAH"... STUBASS

You're right on both counts - Buddah distributed Curton at that time. Great album.

KEVGO AND DEBORAH; IT IS A DISSERVICE, IN MY OPINION, TO REFER TO MR. MAYFIELD AS JUST A SONGWRITER. HE WAS, I BELIEVE, A "GREAT AMERICAN 20TH CENTURY POET". HE COULD JUST AS EASILY WRITE A BEAUTIFUL LOVE BALLAD, AS WELL AS EXPOUNDING ON THE MIRIAD OF SOCIAL CONDITIONS OF THE DAY. ALTHOUGH I HAVEN'T LISTENED TO THE TITLE TRACK OF THE LP I'VE MENTIONED IN AT LEAST 30 ODD YEARS, ONE DOES NOT FORGET STATEMENTS LIKE..."PEOPLE...MUST PROVE TO THE PEOPLE...A BETTER DAY IS COMIN', FOR YOU AND FOR ME...AND WITH A LITTLE BIT MORE EDUCATION...AND A LOVE FOR OUR NATION...WE'LL MAKE A BETTER SOCIETY", EASILY. CURTIS MAYFIELD IS CERTAINLY MY FAVORITE CHIGAGOAN...EVEN AHEAD OF MICHAEL JORDAN...STUBASS

A close colleague of mine was Curtis' first manager (Eddie Thomas - the "TOM" in Curtom Records). He would definitely agree with your sentiments. As for yours truly, I definitely followed Curtis' words of wisdom to the letter. For example, I was five years old when Curtis released "Freddie's Dead" and hearing that song scared me away from drugs (my mother recalls that she couldn't make me take aspirin when I was sick because of that song!). Imagine how many lives he saved just with that one song alone....

Deborah,
I sent you a more detailed e-mail, but the gist of it is that to the best of my knowledge, a number of the Impressions singles in the '65-'66 timeframe did not appear on albums at the time.

Ken

If you look around we just don't limit our topics to Detroit or Motown since soul/R&B is universal and the Detroit sound spread to other cities, including Mr. Mayfield's Chicago.

It is, but we have a big friendly tent occasionally extending over things soulful in Chicago, Philly, Memphis, LA, New York and even across an ocean or two.
