Sorry guys,

But is this me? Why am I writing this piece tomorrow. It is actually 19:40 hours on the 22nd October. Are we set to Aussie time?

I think the clock is set 12 hours ahead in error East coast time! For us on BST (til the w/end of course)the clock is set 7 hours ahead of our time, in error. It's a bit like converting miles to kilometres 5/8 or 1.6!!

Totally threw me there,I thought John Williams and the Tick Tocks were going to be waiting.Ah well,Do me like you do me.MEL.

Maybe we should talk about tick tock, a 'B'side dance number from the seventies on RCA I think. Cannot quite remember who it was, maybe Vicky Sue Robinson, but the backing vocals were by The Whispers. Maybe that's why they are such low level on the db's!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ritchie (62.254.0.7) on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - 03:29 pm:

Wasn't there a Tick Tock label? For some reason, Dave "Baby" Cortez springs to mind.

Speaking of the crazy clock - it puzzled me too -maybe we should call in Vernon Garrett to put it right...

Top of pageBottom of page   By MEL&THEN SOME (195.219.7.43) on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - 03:40 pm:

Ritchie, your spot on mate,I was only looking through a complete Dave Baby Cortez listing the other day.Although the Labelwas CLOCK.And did Vernon Garerett mess it all up by turning back those hands. The 39 steps also springs to mind,(Original with Robert Donat of course).Edwin starr has just called Time.(boom,boom).

Top of pageBottom of page   By Carl Dixon (62.31.32.130) on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - 03:49 pm:

Jackie Moore called 'Time' to, on Atlantic I think - TSOP! Mind you, that's playing both ends against the middle though.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ritchie (62.254.0.7) on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - 03:49 pm:

Or, as Homer Simpson might say: "aahhhhhh.... Donat!"

Or Martha & the Vandellas' tribute: "Hannay Love"?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Carl Dixon (62.31.32.130) on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - 03:50 pm:

No, it was not VSR, it was Carrie Lucas!! For Tick Tock, that is.

Hey Ritchie,Carl, wasnt that dodgy German band known as Sparks, trying to beat the Clock.Ah well,Im clocking off as were going over the bloody clock tower.MEL,playing the Fuller Brothers on soul CLOCK.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Mark Speck (65.58.49.137) on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 12:09 am:

And let's not forget the title of that Fuller Brothers song: "TIME'S A-Wastin'"!

Some more "time" songs of interest:

Shirley Ellis--"Soul Time"
Lainie Hill--"Time Marches On"
Tammy Wayne--"Have a Good Time"
*there are others that I just can't think of right now...

Also, let's not forget "Listen to the Clock on the Wall" by the fabulous O'Jays.

Best,

Mark

Also on the Clock label and with a Detroit link is
Bert Keyes Orch. & Chorus - Do-Do Do Bah-Ah. It's an up-tempo organ-lead instrumental that always has my toes tapping. I always play it if I get a chance to deejay but no-one seems to share my enjoyment. A friend of mine, Barrie Waddington, once played me an even faster version of this tune but I can't remember who the artists were.

Just noticed the clock, I must be "turning back the hands of time" (Tyronne Davis) I'm sittin' here and "time is passing by" (Edwin Starr). It would be nice to "have more time" (Marvin Smith) I guess its "Quittin' time" (Kansas City Playboys) coz i gotta "take some time out for love" (Isley Bros) and my wife's calling me, its "Love time!!!!!!" (Kelly Bros).

Of course when the Jive Five asks "What Time Is It" Alvin Cash and the Crawlers will answer back "Twine Time" which may conflict with "The Monkey Time." :-)

Top of pageBottom of page   By Mark Speck (65.56.60.121) on Thursday, October 31, 2002 - 12:48 am:

Speaking of the Jive Five, they answered their own time question with their next single, "Hully Gully Callin' Time".

Best,

Mark

Mel - I did not know Sparks were German!

How about 'Midnight Stroll'/The Revels - now I wonder who told me about that one!

'One minute every hour'/John Miles(I think it's a great song)

Top of pageBottom of page   By ErikT.O. (64.228.108.14) on Monday, November 11, 2002 - 02:32 pm:

'Time Has Come' (Chambers Bros), 'Time Will Catch Up With You' (correct title? last song on 1st Black Heat album on Atlantic 1971)...

Top of pageBottom of page   By Gary Rosen (12.234.95.0) on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 - 03:18 am:

Carl -

I thought I was the only person in the world who remembered "Midnight Stroll" - I have a copy of the 45. Other "time" songs -

"Tick Tock" - Marvin & Johnny
"Time Is On My Side" - Irma Thomas, covered by Rolling Stones

Sorry, no Detroit connections I can think of, unless you count Hank Ballard & the Midnighters.

- Gary Rosen

Top of pageBottom of page   By Carl Dixon London (62.31.32.130) on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 - 06:03 am:

Gary - I only found out about 'Midnight Stroll' by accident. I think they had to rename the tune because the original one sounded to 'horrible'. I had never heard it before, but found a clip on the internet. On that basis alone, if I see the track in the shops I will buy it.

Give me just a little more time/Chairman of the Board
Time is passin' by/The Monitors (from memory on Gordy)
Time is tight/Booker T & the MG's
Hickory dickory dock/Etta James - I have never heard this one - any good?
