Thought of finishing Charles Bukowsky's "Woman" first, but couldn't hold on after a a quick glance through the pages!

It's so entertaining, amuzing and interesting! Great work Dennis! Thanks for sharing your memories and packaging them in such a funny, captivating and figured way!

Cheers,

Darin

Hey Darin. Thank you for buying my book. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I tried to make it enjoyable and funny because we had a lot of good times making the music. For me, that's what it was all about.

Hey Carl. I enjoyed meeting you in London and your support. I got a call from a US publisher on Saturday. Hopefully, I can get them and Bee Cool together to release the book here in the states. I want to release the book and my new smooth jazz CD, Flight of the Phoenix, at the same time.

Dennis, thanks for steering me to Ed Wolfrum at the Clawson. I went to his house last week and he did a nice job cleaning up my tape. He talked very highly of your new jazz c.d.I'm looking forward to hearing it. He played the tape of you,Babbitt, and I think Jack Brokenshaw(not sure)doing a session with Henry Mancini playing the piano in his up-stairs room. WOW,it was really tasty.
Good Luck on the C.D.

Lynn,

That session was with Joe not Dennis. This was in the 70's when Dennis was on the coast. I'll dig out the pictures of that session and confirm. Also, the other session that I promised you a CD of will be ready at the end of the week. Give me a call then.

Heres one for you Dennis. Whilst dissecting a recent soul CD purchase, I listened with intent to a track called I play for keeps by Dianne Lewis. According to the sleeve notes the track was written by Don Davis and recorded at United Sound in 1967. I would bet you another set of those wonderful plectrums I gave you that you played on that session and maybe even Bob Babbit. Quite clearly the Motown influence is in there with the drums (sounds like Pistol Allen) and also Youve got to pay the price style guitar licks. What amazes me, there are no backing vocals and it seems they should have been there! Just my opinion, but its another track for my favourites list whatever. If this track has been discussed before, accept my apols. I could not find details of it in your book.

Dennis, I wondered: Do you have a publisher right now? Could you please e-mail me offline, if you are open to some suggestions about licensing your new music.

Hi Ralph. I have a new smooth jazz CD called Flight of the Phoenix. It has Earl Klugh on one cut and Uriel Jones and Earl Van Dyke on four cuts. The rest is all the hot new players here in Detroit. I am still shopping it but judging by the response so far, I plan on a release early next year.

Hi Carl. I probably played on I Play for Keeps but I would have to hear it to be sure. I don't know when my new CD will be out in the UK but will let you know when I hear anything.

Best of luck with the new CD. I'm sure it's very good. When it's available for sale let me know.

Dennis,
Where & when was the performance of the live recording that you contributed to the Standing In The Shadows of Motown CD? Did you have many archival recordings like that?

Dennis, my wife has bought me "guitar bars and motown superstars for christmas". I told her to get it, but now I wished I had'nt. I want to read it now! can't possibly wait another seven weeks. She has hidden it somewhere, I have searched the house about six times and cant find it and it's driving me nuts. Wonder where the hell it is?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Carl Dixon London (62.31.40.155) on Saturday, November 09, 2002 - 10:39 am:

Soulie Dave -

the secret is: gently unwrap it, replace with another similar sized book, wrap again and place under Christmas tree. Then, read the 'Guitar bars...' at leisure, but remembering to 'hide' the book somewhere in your property for later retrieval. Warning: try not to talk about its contents to you wife - she may suspect. Then, you could either: wait till Christmas day and watch the look on your wife's face when you open it and find a 'Jamie Oliver' cook book there instead and then confess, or simply return the book to its rightful place under the tree, wrapped in the same paper and she will never know! There are no charges for this advice and it is unlikely she frequents SoulfulDetroit, so will never know what has gone on. Please keep us posted!!

You guys will never make it to Christmas...you're worse than kids...so read it now, re-wrap it, and when Christmas comes, you can read it again!

Hi Steve L. Which live recording are you referring to?

Dennis

Top of pageBottom of page   By Steve L. (209.100.86.4) on Saturday, November 09, 2002 - 05:56 pm:

Hey Dennis,
You do an intro on the Standing in The Shadows of Motown CD(The Book with the 2 cd set - Lot's of reverb on your voice) & then I guess it's an old recording of a club performance featuring you, Jamerson, & a drummer from a club performance. I assumed the recording was from your personal collection.
