Hiya folks, I was just in Montreal, sometimes a great record hunting city. I am playing a hot hot Stevie lp to cheer myself up, I left a bag of 10 records (the day's shopping) at a water fountain for mere minutes before some a#shole grabbed it, but I digress. I was actually wandering who's playing on Stevie Wonder 'Live' and if possible where & when this was recorded... some of the playing sounds like that I've listened to on later recordings from '72-74, but was Wanderlove in effect this far back? Am I the only one who thinks Motown should put out more live stuff from its archives (like that 72 Marvin show on the double What's Going On reissue)? The J5 live 'Going Back To Indianna' has some great moments, the first and especially second live Jr Walker lp's would make 1 great cd, how much else is sitting in vaults? Complete shows used for 35 minute lp's?
I also found a beat up copy of the Motortown Revue in Paris, another fine lp I haven't seen on cd (I haven't any 60's Motown live cd's, actually). Any info on the Stevie or other live Motown lp's would be most appreciated, if HW or anyone could spare a moment to share anything they'd like about recorded shows and plans for releasing them, I'd really appreciate it.

Which LIVE album? US or UK? They are from the same period but different track lineup.

We had plans for a Motortown Revue box set - all 4 original albums with possible (not sure) bonus tracks. That plan is unfortunately on the back burner for now. There are lots of live reels in the vault. Come visit boards.motown.com for further info - search before you post, there are plenty of threads of many subjects. BUT - always come back here to soulfuldetroit.

Hi Harry, thanks for replying! The lp is Phonodisc/Made In Canada, meaning it's the American edition, does an English version exist with different material?!
Side 1- Intro/Pretty World- Sunny- 'Love Theme From R&J'-Shoo Be Do- Everybody's Talking- Cherie Amour- YesterMe, YesterYou, YesterDay-I've Gotta Be Me/ Once In A Lifetime, tracks 2, 4 & 7& 8 just floored me... anyhow, might you know any recording details (where, when, personnel, etc) you can share? Stevie himself is credited with playing drums on 'Ca Purange'...I've endeavoured to check out every live Stevie tape up to 1980 that I could find, unfortunately there aren't too many although I was able to add a terrific tape to the collective pot by begging & cajoling a friend of mine to make the effort to copy a show he taped in Toronto around 1973-75... it really whet my appetite for more of the same, I know this live lp predates all that but it seems to bridge the gap between stuff like 'Uptight' and the mellower direction Stevie later took for lp's like 'Music Of My Mind' and for a few years after*, which reminds me, does anyone know if Stevie ever played 'Keep On Running' live?

*-Before getting too mellow, in my opinion...

Yes,Stevie did perform "Keep on Runnin'" live on the PBS "Wonderlove" special in 1972.

The album was issued in March 1970, Tamla 298. Not sure where or who. Interestingly, the UK issued Stevie 'Live at the Talk of the Town' about 7 months later and it's a slightly different show.

Thanks, folks. I've seen clips of the '72 NBC show & have an audio copy, maybe I forgot about it 'cause I always get stuck on that 'Papa Was A RS' jam into 'Superstition'...

Erik - there's also a nice mini-set by Stevie on a video called "Ten For Two". It was a concert held in '71 in an effort to free John Sinclair after a pot bust. John Lennon & Yoko were the headliners but their set isnt much to speak of. Anyway, Stevie does a killer version of "Heaven Help Us All". I'm not sure who all is in his band but it's definately Buzz Feiten on guitar.
