Hi this is Kev-Lo I know we talked about how we were influenced by some of the artists and their song's,but there were some songs that have a great influence on other artists.Like for instance the Impressions I'm So Proud seem to have had a influence on the Main Ingredient because I saw them in concert and Cuba Gooding spoke about how Curtis Mayfield was a influence on them and that's why they did a remake of it. I guess this is why some artists remake songs that were done by the original artist tell me something why do you think artists do remakes of a song Is it because they are infleunce by a artist or is it because they like the song.

I find remakes very interesting. The Main Ingredient's "I'm So Proud" is a nice one. I don't think Cuba Gooding was with them then though, their lead singer was Donald McPherson.

I never was crazy about remakes of a song that was indelibly associated with another act. Those somewhat known gems work the best for me.

I like the remake of "I'm SO Proud" by Ron Isley on the "Tribute To Curtis Mayfield" CD.
I think that maybe there are a couple of reasons songs are re made~
1. The song reminds them of some certain good
time in their life, and they've always liked
the song anyway.
2. Someone suggests the idea to redo the song,
to Update it...thinking this 'certain'
person can make a bigger hit than the original
...since it was very popular anyway.

The Hall and Oates cd on which I have recently played, is mostly Philly and Detroit remakes with a very original and well thought out and refreshing slant to them.
It was a real labour of love for al those involved, and a must have when released.

Edgar,
I dont want to say to much right now, other it contains songs that they love and are paying tribute to in their special way.

The release date should be early September, and I predict that it will be huge.

Kev Lo - What's up , my mellow my man....lol...
Mom is fine, looking for you to show up soon...lol...so she can feed you your ribs...lol....

I have some favorite remakes that are noteworhty to me, if not anyuone else. Im hard on a remake because I like perfection in music as you already know.

Some ofthe best to me are:

Who's Loving You - J-5
Michael just straight out hurts this song...

Love Is Here (and now your gone) - again, MJ puts his DNA on this joint.

Come Round Here - MJ is the King of Motown remakes...credit where credit is due.

Light My Fire - Stevie Wonder
Stevie just put all his breathing and expresion in this...I love the reference to Chicago fires in this song...

Wichita Lineman - Originals
The way they sing it puts you right in the country somewhere with that tight harmony and Motown 'PaPa Zita' drum beat...

Grapevine - Gladys to Marvin, Marvin to Gladys, depends on the mood i'm in.

Until You Come Back to Me - I worship the original by Stevie...Aretha vocals and music in this are so daydreamy and bouncy...

Speakingof Hall and Oates - I like when Daryl HAll did over "she's Gone solo. Tha was a pretty arrangement.

I have more I can list later but I will say I think that the lyrics and instrumentation in a song create a 'feeling' in an artist, in particular an artist who wants to re-record a song tha has already been made famous. It is overall about interpretation and delivery in performance, and I dont dont 'ego' has alot to do witthe decision making process to re-record a song. ie: who can sing it better, perform it better, deliver it better, etc.

JMO.
Peace -
DyvaNaye
