Hi this is Kev-Lo you know when we talk about classic soul in the early 70's we mention groups like the O'Jays,The Moments,Delfonics,Stylistics,B lue Magic,Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes,Manhattans,Chi-Lites ,Bloodstone and many other groups,But we don't seem to mention the Escorts now as we all know this group spent most of their life in jail, but luckly a man by the name of George Kerr find out about this classic soul act and began to push them out there. The was indeed a special situation to all those involved. It took three years for George Kerr to convince the prison officials to grant him perrmission to record the Escorts.Needless to say,it was well worth the wait, these guys were great.I think they did a fantastic job on Smokey Robinson's Ooh Baby Baby. I also got to see them live a few times and they were great. So here's to a great classic soul act that rates up there along with the others |

Hi kev-lo; Whats sup? How's things kickin' in N.Y.? Yeah, good call The Escorts, nice harmony. One of those cats is Linda Jones' brother and she brought them to George's attention. There are alot of underated talented groups from that era. Lets not forget The Persuasions, Van Dykes, Realistics, Hesitations, Moments (before they became Ray, Goodman, & Brown), The Madlads, The Mighty Marvellows, The Artistics, & The fabulous 5 Stairsteps to name a few, this list can go on & on, but its too early for me (HA, HA, HA-LOL!!!). Take Care, S.S. |

Yeah Baby! Satipe; The Persuasions are indeed one of the baddest accapella groups out there, still, after all these years. Talk about street corner harmoony! I have a couple of their LP's in my stash. Never mentioned in a headline...hmmm...maybe cause their an east coast group and more popular in the NY-NJ area. S.S. S.S. |

Hi Kev-Lo, I really like the Escorts, too. Here's an interesting and inspirational story about the group and its history, from the Soul Patrol site: http://www.soul-patrol.com/sou l/escorts.htm Eva |

Hi Eva; Thanks for posting that link. Kudos to Soul-Patrol for writing the story of how George recorded The Escorts and about Reginald's incredable plight. What a story it is. S.S. |

What's up everyone? Hey S.S. Busy lady as usual, huh Give my fellow Cancerian a little shout out for me!! I see Mr Scott is as busy as ever, doing his thing!! For some more reading on The Escorts, you should check out Marc Taylors':A Touch Of Classic Soul. There's a good story about Reg Haynes & The Escorts there. |
