Does anyone know how Mary Wells is doin ?? Last time I heard ( some time ago now ) she was very ill with throat cancer and just talking was difficult to do. Has Mary improved since then or progressively gotten worse?
If anyone knows how she is and if I can contact her...I'd appreciate hearing from you, as I am very fond of Mary ( and especially her song .."MY GUY" ).

Take care ya all... Wishfairy

Wishfairy, I hate to be the one to tell you this but the throat cancer that made her ill took her life. She's been dead for 12 years this July. Sorry. I know that this may come as a shock to you. I was the same way when I found out about Tammi Terrell.

Hi Dinelle,

....and thank you for telling me ( as awfull as it is to hear ). It seems only a few short years ago that I heard that Mary was ill....but she's been gone for 12 yrs !! UNBELIEVABLE !! God rest her lovelly soul !!
Please tell me about Tammi Terrell , as I haven't heard anything about her in years !! Did she pass away with the same illness ??? I'm going to make a cup of tea now as I'm so upset, and have a good cry... but thanks again for telling me.......appreciate your kindness.

I'm sorry about that. I just never thought that you knew.

Tammi Terrell died from a different illness. It was a malignant brain tumor that took her life. Ludie Montgomery, Tammi's younger sister, along with Vickie Wright, is working on her biography. It's supposed to be released next spring. I think in late April.

Thanks again Dinelle

Very sad news and no I haven't heard anything about either ( Mary Wells or Tammi Terrell ). I know they'll be singing their hearts out in heaven, that's for sure !
Will look forward to reading the new book on Tammi.
Thank you, again....Wishfairy

Tammi Terrell has been dead for 34 years. She died before I was born. I remember when I was younger, my mother played her Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell records and she told me that Tammi Terrell had died of a brain tumor.

I often think of Mary and her struggles with cigarettes/drugs...I ask her for help in my own life. I admired her perseverance, talent and vulnerability--she seemed very human to me.

Once again, Tony, I'm here to back up your opinion of Mary Wells. We're all blessed to have heard her recordings from Motown to Motorcity. Even those last recordings when she was having so much trouble with her throat, she put her heart and soul into those songs. Don't Burn Your Bridges I love even though Levine's backing track is weak. Mary's vocals just shone through.
God bless her.
David.

Here are my favorite Mary Wells recordings:

1.*My Guy
2. You Beat Me To The Punch
3. Two Lovers
4. The One Who Really Loves You
5. What's The Matter With You Baby?-With Marvin Gaye

*This is one of the very first songs that hooked me to the Motown Sound.
